I'm in a kinda stupid discussion with a buddy of mine regarding whether or not you can convert a 16g off of an evolution to something that will more or less "bolt on" to a subie setup. Any input? He say you just need to get the evo3 hot side put on and you'd be good to go. I say that you'd still have to get a different compressor housing/turbine that actual exits in the correct direction, and not to mention the oil pick up lines. (this is assuming it's for an existing TMIC setup. I'm not the end all be all source for turbo's so I thought I'd get more info here. Also he says the conversion would be cheaper than going out and buying an $800 16g designed for a subie. (he's selling the said evo 16g for $250) here's some pics to help illustrate WRX 16g Compressor housing EVO 16g Compressor housing WRX 16g Hotside EVO 16g Hotside
sure you could probly get it done cheaper than a new one, but you and i both know it wouldn't be done right and would be unreliable. if you wanted it done right, it would cost alot more and would make no freaking sense when you could just buy a brand new turbo that is MEANT to work on our cars.
here's my reply to sung on 4touge: sure you could do it cheaper, but would it be reliable? no and 98% of us don't own welders, and would have to pay a reliable exhaust shop lots of moola to custom fab and uppipe and downpipe. then find another shop to custom fab a compressor side setup that would BOLT to that turbo instead of slip on like ours are already setup. so now you're talking about changing the intercooler setup and it really isn't necessary to have a front mount with a turbo that small, so it would be overkill not to mention alot more money to buy a front mount decent one costs $1000 bucks. cuz the plumbing simply wouldn't fit underneath any subaru factory top mount or aftermarket top mount setup with a bolt in compressor side. not to mention the compressor side is completely upside down!! correct me if i'm wrong people!!
i mean even if you did get a compressor housing that spits out the right direction you'd then have to get a different compressor wheel that will spin the right way and at that point you've basically scrapped the whole thing and built a new turbo...
didn't you already post this on your crappy forum, Keegan? And Jake (BJ2003GA) and Keegan, if you don't want to buy it, then why don't you just don't. I posted this on another forum, where Evo members are there too, so for $100 for a good 16g Evo turbo, I think it's a good deal. That and somebody else could of use it too. NOT EVERYONE OWNS A STI OR WRX! and the forum you're a moderator in, isn't for just Subie guys. It's for mountain run and a lot of different users (like domestic cars). It's pretty sad seeing you posting this here.
jesus Sung...chill out you are bumping a 3 week old post for what? to call keegan out? thank GOD not everyone owns a WRX/STi.
lol at least I'm only a jerk when I drink. it's all good. I saw a red rex wagon on barrette yesterday. What are those things go for these days? Last generation body style. looks good. matt, you're a moderator now? How are you? are you still at that place you were at last year off of barrett?
yep! have been for just over a year now... I quit verizon last year as well for bigger and better things....now I'm looking for a job thanks to this awesome economy :unamused:
Make no mistake, I love EG hatches. They're just everywhere. And most of them are horribly done. Unlike the one in the picture. Smartly modded ones are SWEET though. I secretly want one.
Yah, make no mistake that EG is bullshit. Blue on red, no bueno. Thats why black, silver, and white are the best colors for cars, no limits on the colors of wheels
