I test drove a white , 5 speed today. What a dog! First of all the windshield wipers freaked me out. The sales guy was gracious and said do whatever you want in the car. I first noticed nothing like my 05 STI as far as power , I mean a dog. I went to a culdesac and asked him if I could cut a circle and he said do waht ever you want. The X would not light em up and even cut a nice doughnut. I told him noway would I consider buying this car! So what is the skinny on the new STI? I'm not crazy about the new body style but I haven't seen it in person? Will it run like my 05 did?
The electronics in the car, even with the stability control off, will not let the tires spin. It is doing everything it can to maintain traction and help the car rotate around that corner without understeer or oversteer. Also, is your STI modded? The new Evo X is still a sub 5 second 0-60 car(4.9 but still). Its not slow, its a perception due to the way the power is delivered. There is no turbo punch in the new car. Its been civilized. The power very linear. The new STI is just the same old STI with a new body. Similar drivetrain and handling character from what I understand. The new STI is much more civilized and will probably disappoint just as much as the new Evo. The new STI has not been civilized as much as the Evo though. Reviewers have noted that most of the punch from the turbo is gone and the car delivers power much more linearly. Where did you find a dealer that would let you flog the car as you wanted? Personally I would take an STI but for no other reason than its a hatch. The new Evo has a trunk smaller than my RX-8. I need more room than that and no the back seat doesn't count.
Probably right. You have to do the old "Scandinavian flick" to get it "play ball" as Clarkson would say. Aggressive turn in is needed more than ever to make the car rotate from what I have read.
I did sell my 05 with under 3,000 miles , it was mint. What an idiot. I called Siegel and left him a voice mail about my test drive. Might have to get something used w/ some kick!
I would recommend a used 07....if your not willing to go for the new sti...... ps...watch this vid....you might like it.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSCcqcpvPjA
Oh, while I am thinking about it.. My preference would change if we were comparing the WRX to the new Lancer Ralliart. Especially if we through in the sportback/hatchback that is supposed to be coming next year. Its Ralliart all the way. Even as a sedan I would consider it. No one knows how big the trunk is on the Ralliart. If its the same size as the Evo then I would go WRX. If its larger then I would go for the Ralliart. Yeah, as you can see, I want a car with more space without having to use the backseat for stuff. Time to get practical.
