On my STi the factory alarm sometimes beeps when I lock/unlock it and sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone had this problem and have any idea why it's happening? It's pretty random and has been happening for weeks now. At first i thought it was just turned off, follwed the directions to turn it on with the remote but it kept doing the same thing.

are you putting it on silent mode on accident?

if not if you still have warranty might wanna run it by the dealer.

    pEd This ain't no Piccadilly!

maybe a loose/shorted wire running to the horn(??) that makes that sound?
I believe it's in behind the grill. You'd see it if you took off your grill.

yeah, maybe you're just holding the btns too long and it's triping to silent and back?

personally i keep my stuff silent. last thing i wanna do in some places is say "hey look at my car".

I do have the same problem, been having it for over a year. SS looked at it, along with a couple other service guys at SOG and couldn't figure anything out. It is a known issue with the Security System but Subaru will not do anything about it. There is a thread on Nasioc about it, with around 300 people reporting the same thing, I will see if I can find it. A couple people have gotten the Dealership to replace the Horn or whatever, and the problem came back again.

I will update this post if I find the link.

OK guys, thanks for the info. Its not a huge deal i was just kinda wondering if there was a simple fix... I kinda like the beeping cause it's not too loud and it just lets me know that the doors are for sure locked. My remote doesn't work from very far away so It makes me feel better... I'm checking out that thread on nasioc...

I believe that's happened to me before, but it's not common at all. I know there have been times when I unlock and only get like a beep and a half. And I think it doesn't beep locked sometimes because I won't be sure if it locked and have to unlock and then lock again to make sure. But that could just be because a lot of the time I'm not thinking about it at all and might just not notice hearing it...not really sure.

I wonder if it could have anything to do with the remote. Like maybe the remotes battery is partially dead or something? I do know i went swimming in the ocean with my keys :). It did work shortly after it dried again tho haha. That might be right around the time when the problem started but i'm not %100 sure.

  12. I also read that thread over on Nasioc couple of days ago. It seems to be the horn that's located under the grill (plug looking thing that's mounted upside down?). I believe there are some people that had dealers replace them but the problem's coming back due to all the stuff that gets to it (water, dust, etc) which made them to fail in the first place. I think best solution will be remounting it to somewhere else I guess and hide it from all the nasty stuff haha or get an aftermarket alarm which replaces the horn.

It does also bother me because alot of the times, I walk back towards my car to make sure it's locked (especially after mount the screen in the car). But it only happens like once or twice a week so... I guess I will just live with it. ;)

Thats how it started for me, every once in a while it wouldn't beep or did the half beep. Then it started happening more, and more, and more, until the point that it is at now, where every once in a while it will beep. I am lucky if it beeps once a week.

It has nothing to do with the key fobs. I tried my spare fob with a brand new battery that has never been used and it still won't beep. Some people in another thread about this issue on Nasioc made a cover that went around the horn, but never posted back with results, or they may have but I can't find the right thread now.

I am kinda pissed about the whole thing. I mean honestly, we spend an extra $500 for the factory security system and it doesn't even work properly. I wish Classic would have refunded the money for the alarm so I could go out and buy a real one, but they wouldn't do it when the issue first started to happen 3 months after buying the car. I even showed them the post on Nasioc that at the time was up to 150 people with the same problem.

This has happened to me, but I thought I accidently swiched from beep to no beep while in my pocket. I thought it was strange that it happened so often now I know it is a known issue. Thanks for bringing this to light too bad it seems as if nothing will be done about it.

What bothers me more it that I have to be on top of my car to unlock/lock. Any way to increase the distance?

None that I know of. My Fob has a decent range, at least 50 feet or so. Then again, all the Metal in my legs my act as an Antenna to amplify the Signal, I doubt it but it would be another benefit along with always setting of the Security Things at airports.
