Here's the official annoucement on the Import Showdown. I know Genya is already making plans to join the hotel party Saturday night. See everyone there! The Import Showdown is one of the southeast hottest and fastest growing drag events. Our unique style of true, heads up competitions and open runs (test and tune passes) has driven our success. No bracket racing, no racing for the closest ET. Simply put, the first one down the track wins. At the spring event more than 750 people made the trek from all over the southeast to watch 130 cars make passes. We paid out nearly $3000 dollars in cash to our 5 classes. Our event motto is simple: it's all about the racing. And it's designed for everyone to come and enjoy: competitive, sportsman, test and tune, or just watch. The Import Showdown is not for profit and is put on by GA DSM. 95%+ of all money collected is returned to the event. Any remaining funds are returned to the sponsoring club, GA DSM. It's held twice a year at Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA. It's relaxed, it's fun, and it's all about the racing! Despite the name, the event is open to EVERYONE. Import, Domestic - doesn't matter. You will find nearly every make and model vehicle at our event - Hondas, Nissans, DSMs, BMWs, Ford, Chevys, Mercedes, Toyotas... you name it. We do limit competition classes based on number of cylinders, power adders, etc so be sure to check the website for competition rules. We do not limit competitions based on make/model. Test and tune is open to any vehicle (including bikes) that meet that track safety requirements. If you are a spectator, not only is this some of the best and most competitive sportsman racing in the southeast. We also have over $2000 dollars in giveaways. Dyno tuning from Batlground, Gift Certificates from Evolution Auto Design and 3SX Performance, subscriptions and issues from Grassroots Motorsports, TShirts from Sprayglo, and more. We're exicted about the Fall 2005 event and with the continue success of the Spring event, we're looking to BIG things in 2006! Please come out, enjoy the event, and share your suggestions. This event is for YOU, the people who run and watch! I need to trade shifts so I can get that sunday off. No game on saturday so I can work then instead hopefully.
I will be there! For those staying the night the Red Carpet in Perry in is one of the few hotels in the area left with rooms. They are $36.00 for that day. Feel free to crash i will be there the 8th to party and 9th to race.
Damn Passport is sold out.. Actually most of them are sold out already. Ill proally be driving over to the main hotels to party around a bit.
If you follow the link on the Import Showdown site, they still list rooms available. In fact, several of the rooms show availability. I bet they opened up rooms or had a group cancel. Might wanna try to sneak in a reservation now before they fill back up.
A week away now, definitely getting exicted. Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday (and some Saturday). Jay (and anyone else coming Saturday) we are caravaning from the QT on PLeasantdale at 4pm going to Fuddruckers off of 475 for dinner before the hotel. If you want to join the caravan, you more than welcome to. Lemme know and I'll post details.
if anyone is interested in a caravan sunday morning, post up here http://www.wrxatl.com/forums/showthread.php?p=38131#post38131
Import Showdown was a smash! Seeing all those cars run 10s, 11s and 12s makes me wanna get a liitle more HP! I will be happy to dip into the 12s! Next mod for me will be ECU, so I can join the 12 second club! My best run today was a 13.46@102.88mph, which isn't bad considering I was running 18 wheels with sub par tires! I believe I could of shaved at least another tenth or so with the stock rims and tires!
Thanks John! We had a great time putting it on. I'm glad you had a good time. I know Genya did, despite he issues. It was great to have some many WRXs out. As always, thank you very much for the support!
