Not everyone uses them, some just enjoy the decoration.

I find them exciting from time to time and definately something to look to for new ideas.

So give us the skinny, what's your favorite cook book?

It depends greatly on what you're looking for. I really enjoy Alton Brown's "I'm just here for the food" -- not so much for the recipes but the in-depth explanations behind the processes.

You might also want to look at 'On Food and Cooking, The Science and Lore of the Kitchen' by McGee for some very detailed information on food processes.

And Aliza Green's "Field guide to meat" and "Field guide to produce" are very nice as well.

we'll I can honestly say my favorite cook book is kind of a conglomeration of my family's recipe's. great italian traditional food. But if i had to pick a cook book it would be Betty Crockers cook book.

I bought two new books today, and Ive been thumbing through one while at work. It's one of Jamie Oliver's books, its decent and is as good of a read as a recipie book.

that book has been a staple in my family since it came out. my moms is falling apart but she wont get a new one cause it doesnt have all the original stuff in it. personally i have a ton of recipies on card file. everytime i go through it i find something new i can add a modern twist on.

    the guy in the tree!

My grandmother has the red and white striped one still falling apart as well. I have to say my favorite is the Hersheys cook book my first one it was small enough to fit in your back pocket. learned how to make brownies, cupcakes, cakes all sorts of treats I would be up really late and cook them and hide away from every one else. the next is Patti Labelle's got to replace the last one cause someone"borrowed" it and moved to another state

prolly have to say the anarchist cookbook because it tells you how to do funner things than just cooking food in there likr things to do that you can actually try to get away with but be careful it lead to alot than just "i was trying to see if it would work" so think about it b4 u actually try to look it up.

the complete keller - thomas keller of the french laundry

a couple of anthony bourdaine books are good too - for the humour if nothing else.

i'm actually at the beginning of writing an illustrated cookbook of collected and family recipes that have been going around for the last 150yrs. out to be a bear of a task.
