Feramic clutch?

It is time for a new clutch that will hold the power and be streetable. Right now I have an ACT full face organic and it slips on the launch at the strip. I have had 6 pucks (ceramic and kevlar) in the past but they only have lasted me a year each. Apparently they don't enjoyed being slipped over and over again in traffic. I also couldn't stand the chatter.

The car will see occasional auto-x/track and strip use but needs to be driveable day to day in traffic.

Southbend has a full face feramic clutch that they claim can hold the power. Before I just blindly take their word and order one I figured I'd ask and see if anybody has had any personal experience with a feramic clutch. I have searched the internets and found some good and some bad experiences but very few that are with Subarus.

Wow, that is pretty impressive your Full Face ACT clutch held that much power. Let me know if you do go with the Southbend clutch.

Hahaha - I actually had to google 'LMGTFY' to find out what it meant

Interested to see what you find out Mike, I've never heard of this, either

I have yet to run my race gas map to see how it holds but we'll find out Saturday on the dyno how well it does.

With a WRX gauge cluster at the top of the site how can you go wrong?

Haha anyways I've heard good and bad but more good and that is all from Ford guys. Subarus nothing.....

Maybe contact them and propose testing it for them....maybe they will work out a discount in turn for you doing a full writeup on Nasioc, IWSTi, WRXAtl for them.

LOL- I was doing a search on NASIOC for "SOUTHBEND CLUTCH" and saw this thread just now. I did not realize you are an Atlanta native. They are very well respected among the Audi crowd. I have a STAGE 4 in my A4. Drivability is very good. It was EXTREMELY grabby when new and I thought I had screwed up (Lewis Motorworks installed it and they said it was awful- I would almost call it digital (off/on) and was besides myself initially driving it)... but after a week it broke in real nice and was very consistent and you could slip it a bit without too much drama. My wife was not crazy about it for daily driving, but maybe her opinion would improve if she drove it every day. I would guess that the Feramic material is the real deal, my car was maybe 250WTQ but that clutch NEVER slipped at that power level. At your levels... who knows.

I am seriously looking a Southbend for my Legacy based on my previous experience with them, but it does seem strabge that NO Suby people are running or talking about Southbend...

Something tells me you aren't worried about this anymore.

Unfortunately the clutch is not an issue any more. The ACT full face will be more than enough to hold a 20g on 93 octane.

Are you going back to a stock 5 speed? You selling the car too?

I ran the southbend clutch in my supra and it sucked to drive on the street. I know you probably don't want to spend this much but I have been really really happy with both the ATS Twin Carbon Clutches that I have had... 2K is a bit hard to swallow though

Not that it matters but did did it suck more than a sprung 6 puck in traffic?

    Yes a lot more.

I actually prefer the 6 puck unsprung I think they are easier to drive.
