Yup, after stuck at topspeed for like 7hr, it was all done. Set up ------------------- 2004 wrx FP18G - TD05H Deatsch Modded Stock Injectors 850cc Crucial Racing Ceramic Coated UP & DP Stromung High-flow Cat Stromung 3" Dual tip Catback Perrin TMIC Perrin EBCS Stock BPV NGK Copper plugs (one heat colder) Walbro Fuel Pump EcuTek by TopSpeed Result is 265wtq and 289whp. I expected to break 300whp... but i guess my one cat & quiet exhaust are holding me back little bit. Boost builds up starting and 2.8-3k rpm and hits full boost (18.5psi) @ 3.8k rpm and holds till redline. Everything felt good driving back home. we shall see how they do in long run Highway pull is ridiculus. It just PULLs and PULLs. Wastegate sounds really cool when it tries to control excessive boost. Driving to school in downtown today, wasn't that bad. It has decent response at low rpm. Definately recommend 18g to all wrx owner. Hopefully, trey can post their dyno run
nice numbers man... very close to what i expected when compared to my super16g... however i expected more lag
the lag isn't that bad as i worried. Some how, it feels like more smooth during traffic driving since the boost doesn't come on early. With stock turbo, if i press gas pedal too much, it jumps to 5psi. So i back out the gas pedal (to save gas and isn't necessary in traffic). With 18g, since it's more like N/A car, easier to modulate the pedal the way i want. If I want to go fast, there is always a technique called "downshift"
yes it drives smoother in traffic... however, be careful of emergency situations when u have just upgraded ur turbo... for example, a situation when ur trying to merge into traffic and u instinctively think u have power but actually u only have another 700 rpm of lag
Its pretty hard to break 300hp on pump gas with an 18g. I did it but then I had a AEM and a Front mount. Ill see if I can pull up my numbers, since I don't have that setup anymore I guess the numbers aren't really a secret. I think it was 309hp on Pump at 18psi, 348hp on a 50\50mix of pump and c16, 369hp on Straight c16 and I think that was 26psi which is really out of that turbos efficiency range. The 18g is a great turbo for the stock motor, spool times are good and it makes great topend power.
Andy, it was nice meeting you at TopSpeed yesterday! I waited all night for the results of your set up haha I expected over 300whp but almost there... I hope to break 300whp being catless with fmic. :sx: However hitting full boost at 3.8k and all the way to redline should be fun! I can't wait to see you dyno graph...
the hp gains r huge since the turbo comes alive at high revs... tq gains r not big since i believe its easier to make more torque at lower rpm more important than peak numbers is the area under the tq curve... even more important is area under the rpm band that u will use when racing...

As everyone predicts, the acceleration does NOT die!! stock turbo feels pretty bad after 5.5k rpm. Not with 18g. It just pulls consistantly all the way, and the same thing happens again at next gear as well. Milo, i think you are making more tq at lower range due to more boost. you are running 22 psi, right?? I was about to ask doug to crank up more, but more tq = more stress on transmission = earlier failure of transmission. 265wtq is just little bit more stress to the transmission compare to my old 250wtq. If I want more power, I can add meth injection. OOPS... i said that already... mike, nice meeting you as well. I'm sure that you will easily go over 300 whp with much higher wtq #. I want to find out how much lag FMIC add. I want to be catless, but gotta leave little more cleaner environment for my future generations.:rofl:
Well, its understandable to acheive more whp than ft lbs because you are going with a larger turbo on a smaller block. Smaller turbo, larger block has the opposite effect. More torquey, less top end go. So the difference there is understandable. Is this with stock injectors?
Are you sure they are 850cc? I thought they only make 630 & 800cc. Do you know the duty cycle of those injectors at full boost? I'm trying to decide which injectors I should get...
Area under the curve Does matter I just made this dyno graph from excel. It shows the power pretty well. Compare the horsepower between two turbos. I gained almost 90whp near the redline. WOW~!! Also I just ended up scanning the dyno print out. Seems like trey is too busy.
Yep my dyno of the 18g with the Perrin FMIC before its last mod was 304 hp and 298 tq. Now do you really want to wake that 18g up? Two words.....METH INJECTION! Now sitting at 350 hp. SS tuned me with meth inj. and the car simply WOKE UP AND SCREAMED! Running 11.9's in the 1/4 with no traction in 1st gear and chirping 2nd (crappy street tires even though they are 225/45/17's).
I'm thinking about doing meth injection as well. I just want to break the magic 300whp. BTW, now i'm hitting full boost (18psi) around 3500rpm at 4th and 5th gear. I had exhaust leak problem, and now it's gone.
You should be able to break 300 without Meth if your car like timing like most do. Mine didn't until I added the Meth.

Cooling Mist is the same thing as Snow Performance and SMC. It is a highly developed water injection system and it can use meth. It also use highly advanced 2d maps (sorta like the Ecutek maps when SS tunes) and also has a fail safe option.

It looks to me like its not running as much knock correction as it could at around 4200 rpms. It causes your torque curve to flatten out where the timing is pulled. Your torque curve should peak at around 275 at 4500 rpms and taper back down to where it crosses at 5200 rpms. Its not affecting your peak hp but you are losing a little area under the curve. It could be from the TMIC getting heatsoaked. I bet with some 100 octane and without additional tuning you'd pick up that extra torque.
