Fuel smell in engine bay

Mr Jiggles ('97 Impreza L wagon 2.2l) smells like raw fuel.

This happens when the engine is hot/running and just after. I assume that there is a small leak somewhere, but I can't find it. I ran my hand along as much of the lines as I could and felt no liquid or other obvious evidence of a leak.

I did replace the fuel filter and the two flexible lines attached to it. I did this a few months ago, and just started to notice fuel smell about a week or two ago.

    1. If the leak is in the flex lines, I have no problem replacing them, so can anyone recommend some good quality flex lines?
    2. If the leak is in the hard lines, how do I check all of them?
    3. Is there anything else I should check? (I already checked the gas tank cap, smell is definitely coming from the engine bay area)

    Thanks!

I would start at the fuel rails and work my way down. I would usually recommend taking it to KingWrx as a plan B but he is down right now until SOK is up and running.

I had this issue once before, I followed the fuel lines down with a lighter and eventually found the leak, unfortunately I had to replace the car :naughty:

    Thanks for the help, guys!

I think the problem was the clamps on the new flexible lines that I had replaced were either not tightened enough or had worked themselves loose. So I re-tightened all of the hose-clamps and this seems to have helped.

The smell was obvious before and now I can't detect it in the cabin or under the hood. However, if it does come back I will take your offer, Tray.
