sorry bout the noob question but im thinking bout getting the borla hush and not sure about which up and dp rite now. if i get the catback, would u recommend that i wait until i get the up/dp and put them all on at the same time or can i go ahead and put the catback on? also after getting the full exhaust on, will getting a high flow cat get me through the whole emmission test things or is there more? again sorry bout the noob question.
I think if you just do the exhust on you will feel a little difference but you will still be resticted without the up,dn. me personally I plan on doing all at the same time up,dn,exhuast that way my next up garde will be engine mgmnt.
I felt alittle bit more "umph" at the upper RPMs with my perrin cat back, that and the beautiful boxster rumble. Personally I would just de-cat your stock up-pipe rather than replace it with an aftermarket one.
The big difference between an aftermarket up-pipe and the oem one is that the oem one has a cat (02 through 05s).... remove the cat and viola its pretty much the same as an aftermarket... there is some thread on iclub where the dynoed an aftermarket versus de-catted, and there was no difference power wise.
since u dont know how to decat.. is kinda ez.. but after all it takes time, or get the whole sha-bang and slap it on.. if u dont want the loudness, there are couple like borla, greddy evoII [which i got] and it's pretty quiet after a downpipe but waiting for the up pipe to install so i can really say how it sounds..
OK, first off, you have a 05 WRX. If you bought it new here in GA, you don't have to get Emissions tested for 3 years. If you want to run fully catless, you have no issues till 2007 or 2008. At that point in order to pass Emissions, all you will need to do is swap your Midpipe back on, get tested and take it off again. Not difficult, takes maybe 30 minutes. If you want to get just a catback for now, you are fine doing that. You won't notice a huge difference, but will get the improved sound of an aftermarket exhaust. To do the Catback, you do not have to remove the Uppipe or Downpipe, so if you want to add them later on, you can without much difficulty. You will notice the most gains by doing the full exhaust, then some sort of EM.
a catback will make a HUGE difference on the 4eat. As tall as first gear is, you will notice a nice powerband improvement, and if you power brake, it will stall a bit higher, and the turbo will spool just a bit lower. Its just that the up-pipe is a pain to do after the fact.
thanks for all the help guys. i know if i get a shorty dp, my stock midpipe will still stay on. but if i get a long dp (dont know what its called), i wont have the midpipe on. so when i have to put it back on for emmissions tests, do i just remove my whole dp and put the stock dp as well as the midpipe back on? i know its another noobish question but im just trying to get this all sorted out before getting into this. -thanks.
