some of you have told me that the tint law is going to be reinstated and to 35% any ideas on what will happen to cars tinted before the law was in place? i dont want to tint my windows and then have to pull it off J
If you have the reciept showing it was done before the law passes, they can't do anything to you. If you happen to lose that reciept then you will have to rip the tint off, which is not a fun project. It is a PITA.
What if you bought the car with the tint already on it? That's what happened to me, and the tint is pretty dark.
I went with 15% and could care less about the law. I have a reciept that shows when I bought it. Plus U can't get a window tint ticket at night and in the day time I keep my front two windows down:fawk:
Who told you that? That's not true at all.... As far as the tint law goes, it is set to be reinstated at 32% and will apply to Georgia residents as well as out-of-state visitors. The law did not used to apply to those passing through and that was the reason it was repealed in the first place. So, if you are from Florida driving through Georgia to get to South Carolina with 5% tint, you can receive a ticket for it. The law will go into effect as soon as the legislature approves it, maybe a few months or so. And as far as showing a receipt for the tint to show it was applied before the law took effect.... I don't know. Good luck convincing GSP of that because anyone can fake a receipt. I'm not sure exactly how the law will be worded, and I don't know how it will deal with those who claim to be "grandfathered in." We shall see
Well, I still think I am going with 20%. I understand the safety issues behind tint and have the highest respect for highway patrol officers who pull over vehicles and have to approach them. In addition I feel horrible for the police officers who have lost their lives because of tint so dark they could not see inside pulled over vehicles. I understand why the law exists, yet I will still go with a 20-30%ish tint on my vehicle because I feel, like most things, it is a personal right on my own private property. Hence why the law was thrown out in the first place. As our forefathers said it best, "Dont tread on me."
blueline: have u ever ticketed anyone simply for tint? i have dark tint on mine... if i ever get pulled over, i'll roll all the windows down so the officer can clearly see inside... thats the whole point isn't it?
That makes good sense. I've rolled my windows down when pulled over so the officer can clearly see me and my passengers. I still dont have dark tint (I think its 35% on the front and 20-25% on the backs) but I would like some darker tint eventually. BlackandBlue (Jason isnt it?), your car would look damn good with some dark tint (also people wouldnt be able to see your missing rear seat )
Here's what I don't understand.... vans, SUV's, and station wagons are not limited to how dark the tint can be on the rear windows. Cars are limited to 32% all around. I don't see a difference. I am fully aware of the officer safety concerns involved, but I don't see why cars are kept to a tighter standard than other vehicles. Rolling down windows is an excellent idea. I had 20% on my 02 WRX (and will get 20% on my 05 as well ) and my windows came down, regardless of weather, anytime I got pulled over. I feel much more comfortable when the windows are rolled down when I approach a car. If I feel the windows are too dark, I will stand behind the C pillar and pound on the trunk or rear glass until the windows are rolled down. The more comfortable you make the officer, the more likely he is to go easy on you. I will use tint as PC to stop a car, but I rarely write tickets for it. Some officers are bugged by it and will write tickets all day long for it. It just depends. Mirror tint, on the other hand, is something that I have written tickets for. I hate that stuff.
Yes it is. The top 6" is all that can be tinted of the front windshield. I have 35% on my car and somedays I wish it was 20% but I am happy with it.
Blueline, I could not agree with you more. I personally believe that vehicles which sit higher than cars should not be allowed to be tinted period. My reasoning is that when you are behind a vechicle of this nature odds are you cannot see past it on the sides. All you can really do is see through the rear deck out their front. This is say if you are in rush hour traffic where most fender benders occur. That's my $.02. I know 20% going on my car
I'll liked the 20% on my 02 WRX.... any darker than that and you can't see well out the windows at night.
35% all the way around, i will go darker soon, i would also like to get the whole front tinted, something very light. i know there is someone here with that.
is there anyone who does progressive or 'gradient' tinting, like from the factory for that top 6" of the windshield?
Miranda has her entire front windshield tinted. It is light but I couldn't imagine driving at night with it like that.
Wow, I don't know about that, sounds kinda unsafe.... to each their own, but I don't think I'd drive around with tint on the windshield. Sunstrip on the top, yeah.... otherwise I'll just wear sunglasses. I don't even think most places will tint the windshield, you'd have to get a friend to do it or something....
i have the whole car tinted in 5%. i also plan on keeping my fla plates for a while. but i just got a ticket at dusk on 75-S near macon. they didnt even ask about my tint. about the front window tint. they say 6" but they normally go by the h line. but since our cars dont have that on our winshield they really cant say much about it being lower unless they break out the tape messure. thats the way it was in florida anyways.
this is the funniest thread ever. i got 500% on my car and it looks fuckin horrible! the cops never pull me over cause they get blinded by the glare or my clear glass. matter of fact they dont pull em over cause my car is slow and there is no real oter reason to pull anyone over!

This guy did mine too. It's not the absolute best install I've ever seen, but then again it was only $165. He also only has 5, 10 and 20%.
