Ok, planning on getting a protune in a few months and trying to figure out my game plan for mods. Before getting my AP tuned, I'll have UP and full TBE. Are there any other mods you'd recommend before getting it tuned? With my setup, would I get much horsepower out of a Sti or aftermarket TMIC before I get tuned?
you might want to consider a perrin ecbs. i know it makes things a lot easier on scott, and is overall a better control for your wastegate over stock.
takes about 20 minutes to install The Perrin EBCS replaces the factory, bleed type, boost control solenoid offering an extremely fast reaction time for accurate boost control. The EBCS is a huge benefit for consumers with aftermarket ECU's that use the factory solenoid for boost control. EcuTek, Hydra, UTEC, Motec, AEM, Haltech, Unichip (custom programming needs to be done for the EBCS). Add the EBCS to any aftermarket ECU to provide full electronic boost control without the need to purchase a separate AVC-R or similar external boost controller. The actuator is operated by a direct-acting single-solenoid. No boost pressure is pressing on the actuator, therefore no premature boost loss can occur. The EBCS allows a much lower wastegate duty cycle to produce higher boost levels giving tuners more headroom when modifying high-horsepower vehicles. A built in, non locking, manual override allows tuners to physically test the boost controller. The EBCS will work as a replacement solenoid for all popular electronic boost controllers. Designed to handle up to 120psi, the EBCS features aluminum and glass reinforced nylon construction including 425degree (temp) fittings and vacuum hoses for high-heat resistance. This is a universal product for factory-turbocarged vehicles.
No problem, i forgot the best part. The price for them runs around $80, so basically its a cheap mod.
^^^ that sounds like a good investment. It sounds safer too... Do you think it would net any hp gains per se? Or does it just make the tuning easier and more precise?
You CANNOT change to an EBCS without tuning for it. It would almost certainly cause surging... The EBCS is nice for tuning, the $89 metal-bodied 3-port selenoid just has more authority than the plastic bodied 2-port. SS
Nice writeup on the EBCS Chris. I would definately recommend this as well as a larger TMIC. Common brands include TXS and Perrin.
Thanks Alex, yeah I'm somewhat familiar with my options, I just wanted to ask if I would see significant gains with a stock turbo... I guess that's a yes?
It won't give you any power increase. BUT it'll definately shorten your turbo spool up and give faster response with throttle input.
Do you plan on upgrading your turbo ever? Consider this an additional room to your house. You might not need the space now, but eventually, the extra place to throw your junk will come in handy. Exactly.
nice analogy with the house it could be long time till I'm brave enough, and financially able to go bigger turbo and all that so I guess an Sti TMIC would be my best bet right now, nothing over the top (pun intended )
Just to let everyone know that looks Identical To the Greddy profec b selenoid! I have the profec b for sale for $200. When i hooked it up to my 04 wrx I had it set to 16psi with a full cat back and there was a tremendous difference in power on the stock turbo set up. just putting in my 2cnts.
