Well I spend the last couple hours drilling some new holes into my radio bracket thingy to get the Single DIN forrester pocket to fit into it. I am very pleased with the results! I also drilled a hole in the back of the pocket so I could run a wire for my iPod from my stereo aux plug into the pocket. I got the special plug that goes into the bottom of the iPod, because the regular jack is compressed sound, this setup sounds really good! Basicall my stereo to iPod is set up like this: IP-BUS (Pioneer Aux) to rca 2 jack converter, plugged into a 2 jack rca plug converted to the 40 pin iPod plug. It doesn't charge my iPod as well, but I can easily buy a charger for long trips. Well without further ado... Craig
The sound quality that comes from the bottom plug of the iPod is better quality and retains the full value of the sound, whereas the jack in the top compresses it to just two speaker stereo. I dunno, I read it somewhere and was told that by a few audiophiles. Craig
hmm, Im not entirely sure I buy into that one. ive been trying to find that cord winder bit as I have a similar setup myself. looks great though
Alex how are your audio plans going? we need to hang man we seem to just play phone tag still trying to reach you about the party haha. Called you back but didn't hear from ya :ddirty:
That is 100% accurate and can easily be verifed via the web. The hifi jack is on the bottom and the lofi jack is the headphone jack.
lol..that's not true the sound from the top (ear phone jack) is speaker out..i.e. amplified. the sound from the dock is line out. i.e. no amplification. the volume change on the ipod wont' make diff for this output there is not compression on the ear phone jack since its analog.
Yes. If you are connecting ipod to an amplifer though, i would use the bottom jack. Amplifiying an amplified signal doesn't work well .for audio anyway. HTH.
Doesn it also charge the IPod since it is connected on the bottom jack, that should be good enough reason to do it... I need to do this mod, maybe you could lend hand and i'll buy lunch/dinner
It will only charge the iPod if you have the bottom jack plug that has an extra wire that you can splice into a power supply in the car (I don't know how to and the unit cost like $80 at HiFi Buys, as opposed to my $20 parts). Mine didn't have that, I just wanted to be able to turn the music up and down using the stereo without having to worry about how loud the setting was on on the actual iPod (that way when I put earbuds in I don't bust my eardrums! I'd be more than happy to give you a hand with this maybe some weekend, unfortunately Final Exams are coming up in the next few weeks so I'm stuck in my dorm room studying until then. Other than that it's just getting all the right parts for the job, if you really want to do this let me know and I'll give you the parts run down so that you can get all the supplies you need. Craig
