sti axle-back definitely made my power delivery smoother and the turbo seems to spool up faster about 500 RPM, but it FEELS like i lost a lot of bottom torque from changing the muffler.. does this sound right to you guys? like, the car felt like it pulled really strong with a stock exhaust, whereas the new sti axle-back pulls smoother and revs faster, but less torquey? +1 for the exhaust note though haha. cant wait for the downpipe.
sounds strange to me... quicker spool should make more torque down low 500rpm improvement in spool?!?! i didnt know the STi axle backs were that much of an improvement...thats awesome :bigthumb:
haha i dunno about 500.. i was winging it. but yea, it definitely feels a lot less restrictive when i rev the car, but like, the stock axle-back felt heavy when i revved up... like, the sti axle-back delivers power in a smooth band, whereas the stocker does it in one big lump. i dunno if i make any sense, but it feels like that..... it feels like sti one has more top-end and the stocker had more bottom end. but overall, my car is a lot easier to get it revved up and going. haha my bro misses the big lump of power that used to happen with the stock exhaust. but my car is so much faster and easier to drive now. I dont have to rev the $#!t out of the engine from the 1st gear to get it going. OHHHHHH and the lovely exhaust note...... +5000000
The STi definitely flows better. I doubt you're losing torque down low though; perhaps the car pulling smoother/harder up top makes it seem that way. Beware of the butt-dyno, it can be a little out of calibration at times.
Its been a while so I know you've forgotten. The stock wrx muffler absolutely blows (and not in a good way). This is why I also recommend the sti muffler as one of the cheapest and most effective early mods for a pre 05-06 owner! Glad you got it on Andy Cheers.
what about hks hi-power style mufflers? Flow characterists should be better than STi axle back correct? noise asidde..
Exactly... SS might have a +/- 2% whp tolerance bum, while others of us might be off by a lot more. Increased exhaust and intake noise can also throw it out of calibration.
dont subees take a little while for the computer to relearn for a new part like a muffler? Also you do tend to lose a little bottom end (at least on na . cars) when you open up the exhaust and gain more at the top end.
