anyone ever hooked up one of these. it looks pretty easy but i dont have any tools. also this doesnt look to be the more common loop design. i should recieve it before the headlight bake / install day. i also have a lightweight underdrive pully to install. do i have any volunteers?

heres a pic of the kit

How much did the grounding kit cost. Also what underdrive pully did you get. Did you get one that is underdriven or just lightened.

grounding kit was cheap like $30 shipped. and the pully is both lightened and underdriven. and it was cheap also.

Cool, I know the grounding kit you can make yourself for less than $5, but the one you got actually looks good. As for the Pully, I am curious to how that will turn out for you. I have heard bad things about Underdriven pullys and also some about the lightened pullys. I have been toying with the idea of a lightened pully like the Perrin. I don't think I would go underdriven because I will eventually put a stereo system in the car and don't want to have issues with dead batteries all the time.

i know its lightened because its billit aluminum not cast. and its underdriven cause it comes with diffrent belts for my car. what kind of problems have you heard of comming from these type pulleys? and i know i could have made the grounding kit but this has heatshrink around the connectors and all. i wouldnt have done it as nice if i made it.

Exactly my point. I would rather have something look nice at the expense of a couple of dollars as opposed to something that looks like crap for free. I know the HKS Circle Earth (looks almost identical to what you got) sells for around $100. I don't know if it is the same thing or not.

The main problems I have heard about with the pullys are dead battery issues, especially in winter with colder weather. And lights dimming, or flickering, but I think the grounding kit will help reduce the chances of that.

Here, not Subaru, but I would think that for the most part the same applies:

thanks for the good info wrxfan420. i think im going on with the install and i will keep you posted. hopefully i wont get that fake redline situation.:( thats what im most worried about. but i got a new question. am i defeating the purpose of the grounding mod the gives me beter gounding current by putting on a pulley that decreases the electric output of my alternator?

grounding kit is very easy to install..and jason your right you can buy some copper grounding wire from home depot and hardware for like $5...thats what i did..i noticed the biggest difference at idle..my car used to shake/rock when idling at a stoplight and it stopped it from doing that..i found a dyno graph on nasioc a while back where there was like 1-2 hp gain and 5-7 lbs of torque from just regrounded the car

been thinking of grouding my car, but i looked and it appears like the sti comes already ground? should i maybe go with a larger guage wire?

I would think you would be negating one of the bad effects of the pully. At the same point you will still be removing rotational mass which will be good. It should work out very well.

My car did the same thing, I was going to do the grounding mod and then everything went to shit . . .

The grounding mod is supposed to be a lot better for cars with chips since it eliminates the static electrical noise in the system.

Pulley's: Underdriven alternator will weaken the electrical system, personally I think the electrical system is already pretty weak in this car so I'd just go with a lightened pulley. Most people have done the same diameter as stock, but lightened pulley's with great success. It is almost akin to adding a lightweight flywheel since it removes rotating mass; the only problems I've ever heard about with lightweight pulley's were people who used them alongside a lightweight flywheel. With both pieces lightened the engine does not have enough rotating mass and it would stall easily and get misfire CELs.
