yeah: It doesn't look like much, but I would give it a try if there wasn't another event that weekend (2 day se divisional finale at AMS) JDM style y0! Their classing is interesting...
no, this is not drift style, it is a JDM style autoX, which is essentially a mix between drifting and what we call autocross here. Here is a video of one from japan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY1sEFOI5Pg It is about getting around the course fastest, with no points for style like drifting. On some tight stuff, drifting works well. Here is one from the UK, which has a bit different format: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHgjFPhhzY8 Here is a good primer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgXlgxpYVfU
Hmm. I wonder how big a course layout they are looking at? Speeds? Certainly looks like the course would favor a drifting style.
It is hard to tell for sure what style the course would prefer, except for the pivots. If the slalom is spaced decently, it should be a good bit faster going for grip. It would be interesting to see a top autocrosser, a top drifter, and a top gymkhana driver do the same course, and compare who was faster in different sections/different lines.
Seems the best is to mix it up a bit. These events are going to be awesome. I plan on making it out. It will be a blast. If you don't want to drive, come out and show some support for all of those that are driving and for DG Trials.
