i've heard they're noisy...what kind of noise should i be listening for? and what's the diff between pad noise and "time to change" noise?
they are (or mine are). They squeal pretty bad. When it's stime to change pads, it sounds nasty, since the metal tabs are rubbing your rotors. It's more of a grinding metal sound.
Be careful with these pads. They have a coefficient of grip that is higher than most rotors can handle. Just changed a set of fronts on a buddies protege running brembo rotors. The pads ate deep into his rotors that he had to get new rotors and pads. You can see where it left an indentation into the rotors. The pads were hard to get out also, because they were stuck in the indentation. Squeeling is normal, when the brakes scream and it feels like there is nothing there then they are done.
They squeel when you drag your foot on the brake pedal. Press firmly and when they are up to temp, they are quiet. I've used these pads for 5 years and never had an issue with them.
HPS is a much better choice for autox and street driving. I would only suggest the +'s if you are doing frequent track days.
yeah, i've noticed that when i'm "ON" them, they're quiet, it's when i drag to a stop they squeal/squeak. thanks guys, this helps and i do plan on replacing my rotors soon (part ofthe reason i started running hp+ was for track apps, then i realized i just needed a heavier setup)... so li'll be doing the '06 brake conversion by next year.
lol, I ran XP12s on the street, currently the car is on PF-01s both are noisy, you get over it after a while.
A good chunk of people on here are using HP+ for DD, as you can tell by a good bit of the replies, they're just fine for the streets.
