i plan on dropping this and the boost guage in

my question is this: where do i tap the oil pressure? is there an access plug on top of the engine (under the TMIC)?

    any help is appreciated, thanks

If I remember right there is one under the TMIC and another right behind the alternator.

You can also get one of the filter sandwich adapters that you can run pressure and temp from.

oil filter sandwich would be easiest...

however is this a bad idea? To run oil into the cabin is a more than a bit hazardous when an accident occurs, so I would shell out for an electric oil pressure gauge if possible, good luck.

thanks for the helpful replies guys... blind, that's a really good question, is this a common problem? i thought the miata (earlier years 92-94) oil gauges were mechanical, and i didn't hear of any instances where this happened in an accident.

    thoughts?

the AM elec press gauge really isn't much more expensive, but i've always heard gripes (in the miata community) when they went from analog to digital oil pressure gauges (they weren't nearly as accurate).

    Doing gauges first? Ya ricer!

but seriously, I know nothing about installing them so I thought I'd at least give you a useless reply ;)

I've removed a couple of mechanical oil psi gauges before and they made HUGE messes under the dash. None of them were Autometer brand but I would recommend the electric anyway.

I'd say go with an electric one since the mech ones send hot oil into your cabin to your gauge. You should be able to tap into any of the oil lines throughout the engine bay although a sandwich adapter would be easiest.

okay, just to make sure i've got my chopsticks in the right hand here...

Here's what I (think) need to purchase:

ATM Elec Gauge (Includes 1/8" electric sender & 1/4" NPT fitting)
Filter Sandwich Adapter (Oil Block Adapter w/ 2x 1/8 PT Fitting)

    does that sound right?
