Ok heres the deal... Yesterday, as I was driving, the T fitting that I used to tap into the line for my boost gauge popped off. So I pulled over and put it back on. Then as I was accelerating my boost gauge read 22 psi before I even got to WOT. I have a stock turbo so this is way to high. I dont think it is the gauge because the vacuum sits at 15 which is where it is normally. I checked to make sure I didnt connect the fitting wrong and it looked fine . I do have a CEL but it was on prior to this happening. CEL codes are misfires. A co-worker of mine said it sounds like the wastegate isnt opening. I have no idea where to start. Anyone?
I would reset the ECU and retry. This would let you know if the ECU learned something when the T was off. If that doesn't work, we could continue troubleshooting.
I think it builds to 20+ psi much to fast to be boost creep but then again Ive never experienced it. It wasnt just one time either it is consistent. Ill try resetting the ecu and see if that doesnt fix the problem.
Are you tuned? If not, anyone remember what psi the stock ECU cuts boost at? I think it is well below 22. If so, your gauge may be off. Also, I'm not sure what you mean by 'the vacuum sits at 15 which is where it is normally'? Vacuum should be a negative number regardless of the units
reset the ecu ( disconnect the positive terminal hold the brake for about 10 secs. correct?) no change
no tune. I wasnt sure what the unit is for vacuum. -15 I suppose. heres a picture of what I mean.... this is what it reads at idle
the side with the rubber band is the hose that leads to the gauge. rubber band there to hold it until I can get some clamps
Show a pic of the boost control. You have a line that is off that is preventing the wastegate from opening. Siegel
check from turbo to T fitting and to the union and the hose to the WG actuator make sure all is intact if all is good then your WG maybe stuck closed
found the problem...the piece that the vacuum hose connects to on the wastegate actuator ripped clean off the WG actuator. anyone have an extra WG actuator for an 02 WRX?
now as for fixing it I dont think its easy to locate just the WG but im sure its possible find someone with a bad turbo and willing to part it out. or for temporary find a fitting that you can thread into it and JBWELD it on till you find a replacement till then dont do any WOT runs
