My RS has been acting up the past couple of days as it gets colder outside. The other day.. as the car is warming up, it stalls on me as I coast to a stop. Today, as the car is warming up the CEL comes on and the car idles erratically. Weird thing is.. I stop and let the car sit for 1/2 hour. Start up the car and it idles perfect. I had the code pulled and it was a P1507 Manufacturer's Idle control?? I figure the Idle control valve is getting stuck, is there a way to clean the thing? Or do I just need to replace it? It seems to work fine most of the time, it just decides to act up now and again.

I had the same symptoms on my WRX. Not sure if its the same on the RS, but the IACV sits on top of the intake manifold.

Remove the IACV and clean the inside, most likely extremely black. I used alcohol and Q-tips to clean the GUNK from inside of it. Took me about 45min.

Do a search on Nasioc for IACV cleaning. Very easy fix.

Thanks AirMax, I think it probably needs a good cleaning as well. Anyone know if there a gasket I need to replace?

There is a gasket that sits between the IACV and the manifold.

I am not sure of the P/N but if you call the dealer they will know it. The one for my WRX was $6.

Thanks Airmax, I went ahead and ordered a gasket for my IACV.. looks like on the 98 RS it's actually mounted directly on the intake manifold. It looks to be a pain to remove, can I just spray some carb cleaner into the attached hose, would this hurt anything? I would think that would help as mine seems to only act up/get stuck every once in a while.
