Just today my 03 wrx 30K miles started making a clicking noise in 2nd gear. It seems only to happen in that gear and if the shifter gets close to 2nd it sounds like it wants to start making the noise but does not as long as I do not shift into that gear. The clicking speeds up as the rpm rise in that gear. Thoughts?
I think you maybe broke a tooth off of the gear. Too hard of shifting possibly or grinding the gears. I would possibly check the magnet? inside of the transmission for a tooth. Unless someone has a better idea.
Yeah, you want to get that checked out ASAP before whatever might be loose in there wreaks havoc on the rest.
anyone know the name of the place in Canada that sells the transmissions cheap? I know I saw it some time ago but cannot seem to find it now. I want to say their name started with a V. If anyone knows where to get a 5spd at a good price and have options on stronger gear sets? Please let me know
I don't know if you need a whole new transmission if its just second gear. I think you could save a lot of money by just replacing the gear as long as nothing else is damaged. Just have a Suby dealer do the rebuild.
Try fourstarmotorsports.com. They are in Canada and have alot of Subie parts. They might have a cheap tranny. Prices are not listed but you can call and get it. Also, try Primitive racing, writerguy.com/primitive, they may have a used tranny you can buy. Their price is $4900 with the 5 Speed STI RA gearsets.
I wonder if the 06 WRX's tranny will bolt up to the EJ20. A lot of folks agree that the new synchros and stuff have helped out a whole lot. I've never driven an 05 or below WRX so I couldn't really say.
Thanks WRXFan420...Fourstarmotorsports.com is the place I was looking for. I did find a local place that has one with "racing gears" for 2500 installed. He is supposed to call me back with the details of the gears.
