2002 WRX Wagon is now my daily driver. I commute 90 miles/day so 25K/year. I have been a loyal Falken Guy but consistently go through a set of FK452 approx once per year. Car is HP stock but does have JDM STI Wagon struts and Group N mounts so car handles really nicely and I do like to corner close to the limit, but a new baby is in the house and I need a tire that lasts a longer, but is not absolute crap. I realize harder tire compound equals less grip and there is no free lunch but curious to hear people's feedback/experience running UTQG tires in the 400+ range on a "sporty" car. Anybody have a "surprisingly good" tire with high wear rating?
I use Goodyear Eagle GT-HRs. Might be a bit too exciting for you, but they're great all-seasons and they last forever.
Thanks everybody for the feedback. Another forum (LegacyGT.com) also likes the Kumho ASX. Michelin Pilot Sports A/S Plus seem to be good as well, but are pricey. Size is 205/55R16.
+1 for the General UHP's. they are owned by Continental. Being somewhat of a bang for the buck tire connoisseur, I can state these tires have very pleasantly surprised me! I have done the Falken, Khumo, Hankook thing, and the General's are right up there...
You can buy my old wheels with pilot sport all seasons for cheap. They have around %70 thread left I believe. I loved them until I upgraded to bigger and wider things. Shoot me a pm if you want to make an offer on them.
