I'm trying to take my up pipe out and having lots of trouble with it. I cant get it to rotate so that I can get it out the bottom. Do I need to take the turbo completely off and bring it out the top? Please help asap, thanks
You can loosen the turbo bracket that holds the turbo to the motor (head?) and see if that gives you enough wiggle room. If not, you can loosen the motor mount--I didn't have to do this but somebody else can tell you how or pull the turbo (very painful, avoid this). You can also try removing the EGT sensor (I think it's a 12mm) from the uppipe and see if it gives you some more clearance. Basically, pull uppipe towards the front of the car and down, then rotate while pushing back up and over. I've helped on several cars and it always works...
yea..removing the turbo is a pain n the ass so dont do it that way. you just have to angle it just right and it will come out. id jack the motor about 1/2 inch to 1 inch on the passenger side if you cant get it to squeeze through. if you do jack the motor make sure you use a piece of wood and a jack to jack the motor up so u dont damage anything
THANKS, I went ahead and took off the manifold and then that damned egt sensor and it came out. I've gutted it and now just need to get it back in. Crossing my fingers. I almost removed the turbo as the service manual says to but screw them and screw whoever made those heat shields. A simple slot for the shield to slide over the o2 sensor would have been nice, I'll be getting out the tin snips before it goes back on!
I slotted the o2 sensor hole in the shield too. But.. you were trying to get the uppipe off without removing the manifold? No wonder you had a hard time!
yea and make sure you grind/snip off that rectangular mounting bracket on the side of the uppipe. that is the part that gets caught when trying to put it in and out from under the car
I didnt have all that trouble getting mine out fellas! I unbolted mine, rotated it 180 degrees, and then pulled it out from the rear through the downpipe tunnel. And then put it back in the opposite way. Good luck getting it in man!! And yeah, definitely snip that heatshield around the o2 sensor hole!!
