So, I've heard that even with a high flow cat, people notice the "catless" smell. Might it be the position of the cat? Might it be BS? Feel free to chime in. I know plenty of you must be running this kinds of setup.
i used to smell it on my stock wrx before i went high cat... and now i smell it better but it goes away when the car is warm
i have just one HFC and no mufflers or anything else for that matter and i'm like most others where i smell it a bit on startup and it goes away after a few minutes.
I don't have a clue what smell you all are even talking about. My first car was a 68 mustang. I didn't even know what a cat was I'm sure that even if I do smell I don't notice it.
Mine is pretty stinky until the cat warms up. I get a lot of complaints about gasoline smells/exhaust fumes from passengers. It happens a lot more in stop and go traffic, which is ironically exactly where I always am when my engine is cold.
I just got my high flow cat on. i love it. It does smell at startup tho for a few minutes. but after a while it goes away.
What hi-flow cats are you guys running? I'm looking to get one, so I dont have to keep swapping my exhaust out every year for emissions.
I'm using a universal made from Magnaflow. It caused a CEL though. I tried the GPMoto O2 extender but that didn't work. I'm going to try the PEP MIL eliminator next. If you don't already have an exhaust 5spdfrk this is a great time to get one. I got a stock STI 2.5inch exhaust put on and the catpipe made to fit it. I felt HUGE gains and the car is almost whisper quiet with a low grumble.
No, I have a full TBE with a race pipe. I have the o2 sensor pulled out of the exhaust stream and get no CELs with my AP, but the guy at the emissions place still said that the ecu is looking for a reading from the o2 sensor. So the test comes back that I failed the ecu readiness. This is why I am considering a hi-flow cat, so I can leave the o2 sensor in the cat and the ecu will have a reading.
Yeh, I was looking into the RandomTech's. They are a local company and I have heard good things from many people inside and outside the suby world.
i have a high flow cat but i hacked my heat sheild to fit the dp and the smell at startup is almost completely gone. if anyone wants me to hack their heat shield i'll do it free, i just like dremels and aviation snips
i did that too, still have the top part of the heat shield... man was that thing a pain to cut or what??
