So i have this friend that has a brand new HKS SSV BOV and he's willing to sell it to me for $60. Mind you, this thing retails for $200+. The only thing I'll need is a flange so it can fit the TMIC (see pic). I can prolly pick up one for for 15 bucks. Now here's my concern, I've read enough to know that BOV's only spell trouble for our cars. I also read somewhere that the HKS can be converted to recirculating, if this is done will I still have the cool hks woosh sound? My instincts tell me no So here are my damn questions! 1. Has anyone here ever used a HKS BOV? 2. How badly has it affected your ride? ( scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst) 3. Is it worth it to try to convert it and will it still have the woosh sound? 4. Should I just leave my BPV and call it a day 5. Am I wrong to crave my woosh sound? Maybe I should just buy it and resell it for twice as much..hmm 04 WRX w/ 3" catback [flame suit on]:coolugh:
1. me, no! 2. long term, 8 or more 3. ? 4. YES! Do the snorkus delete right now. If you need more, get an intake and you'll really hear it with minimal potential damage. 5. yes.
I had the HKS, it started leaking. The thing about our cars, in order to properly use an atmospheric BOV you'll need to get it tuned. I myself plan on getting another HKS along with my next tune just so I dont think its wrong for you to want the sound, it gives character. For so cheap I say jump on it, the flange is on ebay for about $25.
I've been told the BOV's make you run rich, hence why you'll need a tune so you can even out the fuel trims and make up for the ecu not recieving the air it thinks its recieving.
they make you run rich between gears, which you cant tune out..... since your running normal other wise.
Your best option would probably be getting a decent quality SR intake. I do hear it brings the sound of the bpv out quite a bit. I know people that run SSQVs on wrxs, and nobody has ever said that it absolutely murders your car. The rich condition between shifts will bake your cats (if you have them) so thats something to think about. Also it'll stumble when you get back on the gas after engaging the gear. Just seems like a lot of crap for a noise. I, for one, love the fact that our cars have nearly silent bpvs. It makes people wonder....if the hissing of the turbo spool hasn't already given you away.
if you want the "woosh" just get an intake and turbo inlet pipe and it will be crazy loud compared to stock...
1)yes 2)1 (never noticed the running rich at idle or between shifts) 3)dunno 4)If you are running HIGH boost swap it. 5)to each their own...I have an APS it recircs makes a subtle sound.
