just coming back from SOG (nice seeing you alex... are u somewhat darker now? lol), and what a difference! my car is not running all that great from the broken O2 sensor to begin with, and i guess it must be the heat or something, but the car was really having a hard time (hesitant revving, not as strong mid range torque, etc), but the car revs much smoother, and it finally feels like i`m not dumping gas every time i step on it..it feels much tighter (kind of hard to explain). the only drawback is the $68 mulla, but it's worth every penny! i`m glad i chose the motul.
sounds like the placebo effect glad youre happy though.. I just cannot justify spending that kind of loot on motor oil.
umm yea..what is it 5 quarts for an oil change. thats $13.60 a quart which is about $55 a gallon :eek3:
I meant to say quart, and didn't know if the price included the labor of the actual oil change but $13.60 a quart:eek4:
Was out in the sun installing a new set of inverters for Garys CCFLs. I got back in the car, car temp said 117 haha...
Is motul really worth it? I use German Castrol cause it's pretty cheap ($4.50/qt) and all the IWSTI elitists say its the best.
Good oil is cheap insurance. Just do a search for mobil 1 on nasioc and see how many people have spun bearings using it vs any other brand of oil.
Motul is NO MORE than $8.58 a liter, or $38.58 for a 5-liter...as advertised in the other thread. The other synthetics we sell at $7.99/qt. Motul is a FAR better oil than any other oil you can buy on the market.
Well...is there any other normal use street oil thats better? I've done a ton of research in the area...the only other that seems to be in a similar category is AMSOIL. They are selling/advertising to a different crowd, mostly fleet and long drain interval uses. While Motul has long drain interval oils...they always recommend going by the manufacturer's recommendations on drain intervals. AMSOIL advertises much longer drains...15k, 30k, annual or bi-annual, diesel applications of super long drain intervals...etc etc... I've seen Royal Purple used and I'm not impressed. I'd say its better than Mobil 1, but not by much. My research is still continuing...as far as the information I have *AT THIS SECOND*...Motul competition oils are Ester based and are Group 5 oils. The others...are said to be ester based as well...but I'm still researching this.
...interesting comment from a car enthusiast. I think if someone is going to invest time and $ modding/enjoying their car they should spend equal amounts on maintaining it To each his own though!
i got a deal on Lucas Oil's full synthetic, so I'm trying that now and will do oil analysis in a few thousand miles, see whats going on. I've noticed no immediate driving difference...
I use Shell Rotella T 15w 40 at Uncle Scotty's recommendation. I used to use Mobil 1 until I noticed at 1500 miles it was sheering and like water. The Rotella is nice and thick still even with my methanol injection and I change every 5K. 84,000 miles on my car. Been using Methanol since 36,000K.
royal purple FTW~! and its 6$ a qt. just change your oil regularly and the oil shouldnt affect the performance all that much for daily use. i change mine every 1500 or 2000.... or sooner if im bored. lol its a 06' model and ive changed oil like 35+ times already
I was up there yesterday and was a little dissapointed to only see one kind of the engine oil that they make . It was the basic long life stuff. None of the Esther based products.
Is it any different than the normal Castrol syntec? I mean does it say anything specific on the container?
ima try amsoil product next time ive only heard good ratings and props about it. redline sucked on my last car it destroyed my engine.... err i destroyed it but the oil didnt do its job right. id never put it in again in any of my cars.
I agree.. oil discussions tend to turn into some seriously retarded debates. As for the NASIOC thing -- any idea what percentage of people there use Mobil 1 in the first place? If 3/4 of the owners use it no wonder it's the one most commonly used when a bearing is spun. I've used M1 in most of my cars since the mid 90s, some driven rather hard, and have had zero troubles. But I doubt I would've had any problems had I used the store brand stuff either and changed it every 3k (which is what I do these days). Unless you're a fairly serious racer I doubt you'll find much difference other than the impact on your wallet. PS: if you got it changed at SOG and it wasn't Will who did it, sounds like a good idea to check your oil level!
Yea it's different. The front of the container looks exactly the same as normal syntec, so look for the following: "0W-30" written in red and "european formula" on the front; and "made in germany" on the back.
I'm going to have to say there was no "placebo" effect going on after I changed the oil. I had 2.5k on mobile 1 (5w30) after driving back from Santa Clara, CA and I put motul 300V when I returned. Even my passengers noticed (without me mentioning an oil change) how much smoother the car felt especially during light engine braking. For everyone who hasn't tried motul, you really have no idea what you are missing out on for an extra of $20 per oil change... Also, mobile 1 starts to turn really dark in my car after 1.5k miles, not the case with motul.
i noticed a big difference when i switched to 5w30 from 10w30. but between diff brand oils i couldnt...
