My gf purchased a 2003 wrx from someone on IA in early October. After 2 days of having the car she was driving back home from th varsity meet when she threw a rod bearing on 85 north. After purchasing a a short block from a member on here and threw it in there it was running fine. 5 days ago we later find out that my girlfriend can't put her car in 3rd or 5th gear anymore. I been searching everywhere trying a find a good tranny to put in there but have came up with nothing. I was wondering if you guys had any other advice on what i should do. Where should i take the car to get this fix, rebuilt or whatever and how much it will cost. Mostly im just looking for advice and recommendation. Thanks a lot, Tuan

You buy it from Auxilary? That sucks. Maybe try to catch a hold of O4 oem gears and get it rebuilt? 02 gears were prone to breaking and such. And if the car is having as many problems as you've had then it might be a smart choice.

  6. I say give http://www.andrewtechautomotive.com/ a call and go ahead and put some PPG in it. unless she wants to keep it mainly stock then id just find another transmission, i found my last one for around 700 with a 7 month warrenty

try to find a 03+ transmission as they have larger gearsets that are actually close to the same dimensions as the RA gears. Some say that the RA gears have a little more meat near the base...others say that they are the same as the 03+ gears. Either way it comes down to 3 factors:

How is she planning on driving it?
How much power she wants to put down?
How reliable does she want it?

If she is planning on driviing it hard it would be a enifit to get the larger gears and get them shot peaned or something...otherwise go with PPG. If she just wants it for normal driving and does not plan on racing it, shifting hard, or dumping the clutch, try some RA's or 03+ gears.

Yeah she was there that day. When she was heading back home was when the rod threw. There was nothing we could have done because we signed the bill of sale and jimmy seem like a good guy. Later taking everything apart i knew that jimmy had to know that his motor was about to give out. Now the tranny gave out too so im kinda pissed about this because she wanted to car like mine to go to school and work because her integra kept having problems, but know her wrx is giving her more problems then her pos integra.
