So I bit the bullet and ordered the Cobra kit today. I went with www.hurricane-motorsports.com The kit with the options I ordered cost right at 20k. I only have to order the motor, trans and driveshaft now, but I will wait till I sell the Sti to do that. I just recently put it back on the market. The move kind of messed things up there. so I will be into this about 45k I think when i am done with everything including paint.

I am excited, but have to wait 8 to 12 weeks for the kit to come.

    P.s.
Kansas is really cool. We like it hear ALOT, The people are super friendly and its wayy laid back here :)

I have some Polish family friends that live in the Missiouri side of the city. Last time I was there was a few years ago.

And good luck (once again) with the sale.

Not sure on the color scheme yet. i have a couple of months to think it over.. I am torn on what motor to go with . It will be over 500hp crank either way.

any reason why you picked that kit over the factory five kit?

also for motro and trans, i suggest a 03 cobra motor with a t56 6 speed, that would be badass

That would be badass but then you'd have that whiny supercharger sound. I say go with something big and sexy that will give you a good rumble (not a 4.6 liter rumble).

There are only 2 engines that belong between the frame rails of a Cobra(replica or otherwise). The 289 smallblock Ford or the 427 Bigblock.

If you want 500+ then the 427 is the way to go.

The problem with these cars is that about 400 to the ground is about all you are going to get to hook up. So I will look for around the 525 hp crank wise. I def want to go old school carb and all motor.
The big blocks are a handful.. lots of weight on the front. They are super torque too which makes them hard to push out of a turn. Plus the footboxes get about 1 3/4 smaller on the sides with a BB and there isn't much room there in the first place lol. I will probably go with a stroked out 351w just because its the best fit for the car handling and perfomance wise. The small blocks are actually better at the drags too. You can wind them out a lil more.

I will keep you guys posted.

Sounds like a good plan man. Good luck with it and have fun!

I actually considered an SVT Cobra for a while there but in the end I came back to the AWD.

Why a 351w and not a 351c? I know the 351w will give better torque but the topend on the 351c should be better.

I would go 427 if it was me. Just cause I am crazy like that. :p

Well if you think 427w then you are stroking it pretty much close to the limit. I am thinking 408. that would be about 525hp. The 351c is famous but the 351w is pretty darn strong too. And not a bad engine at all. If I go with 427 bb then you are talking a 390Fe probably stroked out to 427 or 428. By the way the cobra came with more 428 motors than 427 ones ;) A true 427 side oiler which is what they came with will set you back close to 20k and the small blocks will run circles around it. But then we are back to the big block issues also if I go with that.
Probably going tko600 for my tranny.

thanks for the updates dan. it sounds like it's going to be one badass car!

AC Cobra is my all time favorite car!! ...maybe because it was my favorite matchbox car when i was a kid, still have the matchbox car on my desk. i just love the lines on em, big fat tires, and they are pure muscle car! :bigthumb:

I have always wanted a light car with enough power to scare me. A 427 side oiler would do it everytime.

I agree that a 289 or a 351 would be the better handling car. I have a RX8 for the corners. I want a straightline monster. I am thinking about getting my nephews 350 S-10.:naughty:

Edit: Good luck on your project. I hope you bring it over and scare some of us.

The factory five cars are a good bang for the buck but they are donor cars, in other words you use alot of used parts. I am using everything new. Plus I don't think the body is near as accurate or the kit complete as the hurricane car. The factory five car is conscidered the lower end of kits. The hurricane is upper middle range.

Yeah but they are beyond wild. 2000-2200lbs and 500-600 hp(or more) and 500-600lb/ft of torque(or more). They are monsters.

They can't handle at the same level as the smallblock cars but they are fast in a straight line if you can get it to hook up.

I drove my dad's friend's Superformance Cobra Replica... absolutly insane. Don't remember the engibe size but i'm guessing it's the 427 based upon the numbers it threw down.
