I've noticed when I stop at a red light there seems to be a lot of exhaust smoke pouring out. I don't have any cats and I haven't been tuned yet, do you think its because I'm running so rich? Or something else
It doesn't sound like it's fuel related to me. I would think that if it were you would have a lot of smoke at full throttle, which you wouldn't see from the cabin anyway. Without the cats I'm sure your backpressure is different but I'm not sure how that affects things. Hopefully someone will chime in with a better answer.
i'm pretty sure its grey smoke; not white. The reason I was thinking fuel was from the dyno it showed I was running extremely rich, but I don't know
well, it disappeared off the chart for a little while then came back up at the end. yes I have a heatshield; nothing is leaking
This rich... No, but seriously, it all depends on the quantity of smoke coming out. If there is a considerable amount of white smoke and it does not small gassy, then it could be that your burning oil. Have you checked your oil levels?
scott brought up an interesting point. when its humid outside and the nights get chilly the water in the air condensates on the interior of the exhuast piping (the opposite of a cold glass of water). when you start the car this water evaporates as your car heats up. this can cause a kinda grey smoke(from water and built up carbon) to come out your muffler til the water is gone. i used to have this happen in florida quite a bit. it has to be the right conditions to make this happen but i remeber it was in the spring and fall that this happened to me.
Yes, if its humid and chilly outside you will just pour smoke out (at least I do -- my car is the slightest bit rich). I also have catless, full 3 out. This goes away after you drive around and the car warms of course. When exactly is your smoke occur, every light the entire drive or...
sporadically occurs, most of the time in the morning or shortly after I start up. Today however was frequent, basically at every stop. I'm taking it to Topspeed Friday; so maybe Doug can see it in action and tell me what's up.
yes, but it didn't go away once the car warmed up and its damn embarrassing to have it bellowing out like a steam engine all of the time.
bad news, I lost about 12whp since the last dyno and I have added an up pipe since the last pull not sure what is going on but I'm still blowing smoke everywhere. I'm going to change the spark plugs tomorrow and also check the compression. I put some Restore in the oil, if its the seals that should help some. I'll let you guys know the compression results. I'm only pulling about 220whp now after ecutek at topspeed. Should be more like 240whp.
I pulled the downpipe and looked at the turbo, its black all in there. It looks like black undercoating on the turbo and the downpipe. Does this sound like its definitely leaking? there was no fresh oil though
