i am currently enrolled in a BFA of industiral design at SCAD (savannah college of art and design), and will enroll Art Center in Pasadena CA for a graduate school to study transportation design. But yea, I`m just wondering if anyone is familiar with this occupation or know someone in this area, cuz it is such a small field. I`m working on a 2010 NSX concept and the new-gen STi, and some other interesting concepts (two seater roadster; driver and the passengers are placed inline instead of across from each other to give the maximum balance, and work off the load on the front of the vehicle). also, i am wondering if MR+AWD combo is possible (is Tommy kaira sort of like this?) I think if you combine the subaru's symmetrical AWD with the boxer engine in a midship position, (with the tranny in front of the engine instead of behind), something crazy can happen. now, i dont know if all designers are interested in the mechanical aspect of the vehicles, but i believe knowing those components will lead to a better design. feel free to give me some pointers about some of the projects, and i guess i can post up some of my works. keep in mind, i have NOT taken any design classes yet (still an undergraduate), so they are just basic sketches... no shadow rendering; just some basic ideas jotted down, like a note.
I would think some sort of design engineer...I know a good bit go or went to Tech that work here at lockheed. I know it is aircraft but designing a vehicle cannot be that different, I am thinking. I am a computer engineer and know nothing about aircraft except they are cool a chit. Check out Ga Tech for options.
My wife wants to do this as well. Funny thing is I had an art professor at school in UGA that WAS a designer for Ford and some other minor designs. He taught art for fun and drove a different car it seemed every day...Ferrari, lambo, vette, and a couple others. He designed interior seats and hub caps of all things
nice! i just need some kind of an idea of how much money they make (it's ok as long as i can make a living), and how they get associated with the big names. damn, my only way is to wait until my grad. school...
MidEngine+AWD is possible, like the lambos. However, I don't think it's possible with a symmetrical AWD.
well, got accepted to CCS [center for creative studies] in Detroit and was thinking the same when I was in HS but parents weren't down with Detroit for crime reasons...but that's were Foose went IIRC and is an amazing school...ended up taking the 2-d route...
thanks for the advice! yea, that's why i am not going to detroit and rather CA. honestly i dunno which is worse, but i just have the feeling that CA is safer. as far as education, everyone ( and i mean 100%) of the graduated students from Art Center in Pasadena gets a job!
