Last night, on the way home from gwinnett area, my right rear tire BLEW OUT!!! It was not a flat tire, but literally BLOWN OUT!!hnoes: Here is little more detail. I was traveling around 65~70 mph on I-85 South at 11pm. Out of no where, I felt little vibration from the rear right. After few second, the vibration got severe and i realized that my tire has flat tire. I began to merge into shoulder as i was slowing down gentle as possible. All of sudden, the tire blew out and i lost the control in split second. After doing two 360s, my car came into stop in middle of highway. There was light traffic, but luckily no one hit my car. I managed to pull over to shoulder safely after that. I'm really thankful to God that I walked out from this without getting hurt. BTW, my GF was in the car with me. She got really scared and cried. :hsnono:
now i have NEW excuse to buy brand new set of tires!! (trying to think positively) I wish that Falken FK452 is out by now.
i bet i know how u feel... when i went up to SC to pick up my rex, my girlfriend at the time was driving us up there in her civic... merging onto the highway on an on ramp, the car lost control (it was raining real heavy) and we spun around twice and ended up in the middle of the highway facing backwards... luckily people slowed sown and we got off safely... glad u werent hurt
tire my friend is gone with the angels.. btw your fine thats all matters... try tires you can trust dont just put proformance first think saftey.. i have those stockers micilien (if thats how you spell it) it's been nearly a year still got good tread after super abuse in track...
Ah, we drove by you last night...or we think at least. Alex and I were with Milo driving back from dropping off Heather...we werent sure if it was you or not. Glad that you two are alright :eek3:
Thanx everyone. I already feel like nothing happened yesterday. I guess I'm one heck of lucky one. I don't know what exactly cause all of sudden loss of air. By looking at the last picture, most likely the tire picked up some nasty stuff from the road. Most likely, i'm gonna go with FK451 again since i love them. OR maybe toyo proxes 4.
I am glad that you are OK Andy...I had a blowout a little while back, but it wasn't on the highway and it was weird....I am going to prob. get Falkens or Kumho's very soon after a little more tread wear. Mark
I would stick with the 451's again.....I had a set and LOVE them. Just got a set of Kumho Ecsta SPT's put on and I'm going to trade them in on another set of 451's. I love the performance of the falken. the kumhos are nice, but the falkens are loads better. I never had any issue with my Beta's, thankfully. I do enjoy the SPT's, but like the beta's a little more. Soon enough, there will be a slightly (1000 mile) used set of SPT's for sale. If anyone is interested, I will let the shop know...They are 225-50-16. Great tire, I just like my Falken's better Glad to read that you are ok!! It's a scary site to witness and even scarier to experience! -Matt
glad to see you and the lady made it out ok. I've never had that happen to me, but if my wife was in the car when it happened, she'd be crying like hell.
When I got new tires @ SoG they showed me where 1 tire was about to blow. The inside of the tire was shredded and only rubber was holding the tire together. If you have a slow leak or a tire with unusually low air pressure that tire should get inspected immediately. I had a slow leak shortly before replacing the tires and finding the damaged one. I'm not sure of the tire dynamics, but I think the extra sidewall flex when cornering with low air pressure caused the belts to snap & shred.
I always check tire pressure once every two weeks. It was all fine. I guess i should check each tire more carefully now on.
