I have a crankshaft from my busted motor laying around so I have decided to finally do something with it. What better than a lamp? So I recruited my father who knows his way around lumber better than I and set to making a base, out of some ash. The crank is a little sawdusty in the picture and the base needs some cleaning up of burn marks and unruly lines but so far it looks alright. My main issue now if figuring out how to get power the the lamp part on top. I thought a camshaft would look good next to it, run the wire up through that and over to the lightbulb under the lampshade, so that is currently the plan until I decided otherwise.
awesome idea. friend of mine bought a lamp from used F1 parts, it was a disc caliper for the stand and an axle for the shaft, looks really, really cool
Talk to Justin over at Bulldog off Huddleston Rd. He might be able to gun drill the crank on a lathe to run power through the center. Just a thought. And return my call if you want to make that run in the morning
Thabks for the info breel, I collected like 6 cranks for this purpose alone and looking to get the centers drilled
you should make it one of those touch lamps. every time you touch the crank it gets brighter and then shuts off.
