..... because I wasn't able to squeeze better than a 14.209 @95.95mph out of my 02 WRX, mods as follows

    Engine:
    VF22 @19psi
Injen CAI and FMIC Ecutek ECU
    STi pinks injectors
    Walbro fuel pump (255lph)
TXS HPBC (also Perrin EBC wired in but not in use)
    2 Perrin oil catch tanks
TXS cast up pipe (heat wrapped)
Bosal divorced WG down pipe and mid pipe
    SPT 3" cat back
    NGK BKR7EIX plugs
ported and smoothed stock exhaust manifold
    bypassed throttle heater

    Trans:
    IXIS short shifter
    Exedy clutch disc
    ACT 13.9 lb. flywheel

    Suspension:
17x8 Rota Torques/ gunmetal (Work Emotion CR Kai knock offs)
    RE070 Bridgestone tires (like new)
    KYB AGX struts
    Ground Control springs
    22/24/26 rear sway bar
    Whiteline rack bushings
    Eibach rear camber kit

Now mind you, I am coming from years of RWD imports with all manner of engines, but it just seemed like slipping at all manner of RPM, partially dumping after slip, etc etc, I could not get a decent launch, nor a 60 foot better than a 2.2XX out of her. I swear I've goteen better times on my way to the grocery store before. I tried mostly doing a minimal clutch slip at anywhere from 2500 to as high as 5500 rpms, and no matter what, I would get bogging in first. Could it be that I'm not letting out of the clutch smoothly enough? Or that the car was tuned initially with the perrin solenoid but switch to the TurboXS manual later which is hurting spool? I just don't understand how on a long empty stretch of road, I'm roasting a friends very mildly modded STi, but I can't touch him at the track.

Basically, I'm working off of the assumption that it's jsut a matter of getting used to driving an AWD car that I'm afraid to break the tranny on, and more time at the track is the answer. However, I am seriously wondering if the MBC vs EBC might have something to do with it as well.

I won't lie, I'm not a great drag racer, but I've gotten better times out of 240sx's making 2/3 the whp, so I'm hoping that it is just a stupid newb mistake. Any advice (aside from "stop sucking at life") would be appreciated. Thanks all!

The light weight flywheel makes it a little trickier to launch but I'm not so sure you really want a good launch. You have quite a bit of tire under the car for a stock tranny to handle. Ideally you would get a little wheel spin coming off the line but I don't think your gears will be able take it with that much traction.

Do you know what tire pressures you were running?

lol, had to search thru my old forum from 4 years ago. dang

again, this is a bone stock '02 bugeye w/ only 3" turbo back exhaust and up-pipe (no tune)

If he gets the 60 foot down to 1.8 then it will run a very low 13, judging by the trap speed. Usually for every 10th you take off the 60 foot you are rewarded with 2/10ths at the end of the track.

Matt is right. It took me a TON of passes to get to where I could consistantly hit 1.6 60' on street tires. I usually had the tire pressures up to 45 psi because any less it would bite and bog horribly.

Oh and you are NOT an idiot.....these cars are very hard to properly hit the sweet spot on a launch consistantly.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up on the tire pressures, I left them alone for the track, and almost let them down a bit until I realized that I was only familiar with driving it on the street as it sat. With rwd cars, we're always letting air out of the rear, glad I didn't go that route.
