SO lately with all the problems I've been having with the 240 I've been thinking about buying a STI as a track car. I want something I can take on Mountain Runs, track days, and to meets that I don't have to worry about. I left a message for SS to earlier, I wanted to ask his opinion on what I can do to it and still keep the warranty. I was thinking keep it simple a flash, exhaust, boost controller, upgraded top mount(I hate top mounts), methanol, and suspension. I think it would be fast enough with that setup that it would keep me happy. When I rode with MChan it made me realize how much I really enjoy driving a Subaru, and since the bug-eye isn't exactly going to have great spool up I don't think Ill be taking it to the track any. Opinions on the setup or thoughts in general are welcome, please refrain from commenting on breakfast cereal. Matt
That sounds just like the setup Rolling_Trip is running and his car is for sale . . . repaint it triple black. I want to say that they wont void your warranty with reflash and exhaust work but the meth injection probably will. I know they'll warranty the Prodrive performance packs so I think as long as you arent modded past that they'll let you keep your warranty.
All that stuff I can take off if I have a problem though, I just dont want to have to start pulling turbos and all that good stuff off. Matt
SOG is pretty mod friendly... as long as u want something reasonable, and ur mod didnt directly cause the damage, they are good with covering it... they have taken good care of me over the years the STi is a great all round car... im really happy with mine... its plenty fast with exhaust, big TMIC, CAI and a flash (~366wtq, ~318whp)... methanol would boost numbers up a good amount too (i am sure u already know these things )
I think just over 300hp would make me happy. I want something that I can take to the track or meets or drive to grocery store(down a very curvy road). I want something I dont have to worry about.
thats good, cuz u can easily break 300whp with basic bolt ons (stock turbo+ pump gas)... u dont need to worry about meth... here's my dyno plot at SOG mods include full turbo back, hyperflow TMIC, CAI and protune ... spools up quick and butt dyno is happy
Its a pretty broad power band, I think I could probally deal with that, I wish the torque didnt fall off so bad. I guess I can probally deal with it.
I just finished wasting about an hour of Scotts time, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy a 06 Sti this afternoon. Matt
Congrats, I hope you enjoy it. Personally I think my car is plenty fast enough with just some sticky tires. I would like to throw some stiffer springs or shocks into my car right now but my money is going to our several projects. But on the up side I have had no major issues (other than my power steering fluid boiling ) with my car and I am fairly certain if I did my warranty should be valid.
That's a very quick buy! Congratulations! Is there no break in period for the new model WRX/STi's? I thought it was ~2000 Miles.. Craig
That's 7Wolfs car, he works up there in the service dept. Congrats on the buy! White is the best color for WRXs.
I'm to picky to buy a car that someone else has already modded, I would just end up taking everything off and redoing it. Theres also something about being the first one to beat the crap out of a car.
I'm too picky....I just hate this typo..it actually costed my company money from a client that was so certain that it was correct and obviously not correct.....congrads Matt...had to vent ..nothing against you...your the man .....
Honestly that was kinda the point of buying the STI. I feel like I always miss out on all the meets and mountain runs because the cars are always down at the wrong times. This way I have a play toy that wont be broken all the time. I'm going to try and make it out for the install day and Ill be out tonight at the varsity.
it'll be good to have u out... i myself wont be attending any meets until i get back from TX at the end of august... but the next big meets comin up are the install day and the scavenger hunt... hoping for good participation at both
