The Import Showdown returns for the Spring 2005 event, Sunday April 3rd. The Import Showdown is the southeast's hottest non-profit, club sponsored drag day event. For the past few years we have been averaging over $1800 in cash payouts, $1000 in giveaways. The event also averages 100 racers and well over 300 spectators of nearly every make and model vehicle, including asian, european, and even domestics! The event occurs twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The event is 100% non-profit, all money earned from the event is turned right back into the event. The event is put on by volunteers and officers of GA DSM. The Import Showdown combines true, heads up elimination competitions with open runs/test and tune passes. No bracket racing or ET based classes here, this is true heads up racing. The event is aimed squarely at the sportsman drag racer. In addition to our competitions, nearly half of the day is open for test and tune passes. The event is open to any car or bike that meets the track safety requirements. Competitions rules are seperate, however, anyone can join in the open run/test and tune passes. We building on the fun and success of the Fall 2004 event! It was an absolute blast. And we're expecting this one to be even better. The variety of cars at the previous event was unbelievable: DSMs, EVOs, WRX/STi, Starquests, 3000GT/Stealths, Supras, 300ZXs, Hondas, G35/350Z, Neon SRT4s, Mazdas, Benz, BMWs, & many more. For 2005 event you can expect: More giveaways, more great racing, exhibition passes, plus numerous vendor booths, as well as a host of other activities. We're giving away great prizes like dyno runs, TShirts, gift certificates, parts, Grassroots Motorsports issues and subscriptions, and more! This is all in addition to our cash payouts for competitions! sounds like fun... a good buddy of mine is comin to town... i think he flies out that day... so as long as theres no time conflict with his tickets, i should be able to make it
Cool. Looking forward to it. We had pretty good turnout for WRX/STi's last time. I know we had several WRX Atlanta members there.
If anyone would like to meet up at the shop. We will be leaving here on friday, would be fun to caravan down there. Doug
caravan would be cool... but i thought the event was on sunday... is there something going on friday too?
I would be down for caravaning, assuming that it is not the one saturday every 3 or so months that I have to work.
Fun event, went last year. Had a great time competing. Proally wont have the new setup ready to compete this year. But will go to watch as its the best import race you are going to get in this area. If you plan on running a drag one or twice a year this is the place to do it. Im aiming for a more competive run in the Fall one, once things are completed.
We have hotel parties on Friday and we have a dyno day and cookout Saturday. There will definitely be a group of people down there as early as Friday night. The dyno is only 2wd, so I doubt many scubbie owners would be interested in dynoing. But it is free food You know your gonna run... J - come by and see me, I'll hook ya up like in the Fall.
If anybody decides to head down Friday we can caravan together (even if you meet up first at Top Speed then roll down and meet up with us). I know there is usually a nice sized group rolling out from GA DSM Friday night.
What's up Donnie! Stop being a stranger man. So you coming this time? I'm not gonna have to drive over to your house and pick you up am I?
I don't know when we're going to have poker at Kevn's again, that workaholic We do usually get a poker tourney going in the hotel room the night before the event though
All of the class rules have been annouced, as well as hotel information for those interested in going down for the weekend.
Count me in You can count me in, We are changing the setup on the wrx this week so the car should be ready in time. Matt
Re: Count me in matt: i'd love to see how fast u can run this time... i plan on going... my best friend from high school is gonna be in town that weekend... that equates to nights of heavy  which might alter my plans
Re: Re: Count me in Were pulling out all the stops for this event, We are hoping for something in the 11.5 range with the new setup. We are also thinking about shooting for the stock block hp record, I think its set at 412hp now, and I think we can do better. Matt
Sounds like what we'll be doing  Nice :bigthumb: BTW Help me pressure Genya and Yerrow into actually running. I know there coming. Genya has run at everyone of our events for the last few years. Don't let Jason whimp out this time
Yeah Its looking like we may not have the new kit together in time for the showdown, But we will still push the 18g really hard Matt
If you want to caravan with some of the DSMers and various other groups, I can post our caravans for Fri/Sat/Sun. If your doing your own thing, then we will see you all down there.
paul: do u guys have an entry list for the event? ive already pre registered... when does pre-registration end?
I will definately be there, car will not, as its torn back down again for the front mount. Still cant miss the best event of the season as far as im concerned, so ill be down there in the L or the bike. Definately will be ready for Fall event. (enter wimp mode) Will be heading down Sunday morning and as usual heading back around 4:30 -5pm for work for those that need a ride Jason
glad ur comin too jason... hopefully i'll have ur STi takeoff intercooler by then i plan to caravan with paul and gang... hopefully some more of our boys will wanna go too
Yup for sure man, It will definately be available wed or thursday, new one should be here tommorow. But yeah if you get a chance, let me know when is good for you and ill see f I can meet you or if you can swing by.
let me know when u get it... i'll try to meet up at the earliest possible time... also, if u have the tools and some time, do u wanna help me install it
If you go to the Import Showdown site and click on pre-register button on the right and scroll down, you will see the list of who all is pre-registered. There are 4 WRXs pre-registered already. Pre-registration actually closes tonight. Steve, one of GA DSM's officers is trailing his 66 Falcon and leading the Sunday caravan. He's leaving 8am sharp from the Varsity Midtown. He'll be in the back parking lot, behind the deck. You actually won't be caravaning with me. A lot of us DSMers (including myself and most of the officers) are going down Friday to be there for the Dyno Saturday morning and have lots of time to setup. Plus, a lot of DSMers from around Georgia get together and make a weekend of it. But I will definitely be at the event and Steve will be able to lead the caravan if you guys want to meet up with him. BTW Thanks again to everyone for their support. Definitely looking forward to Sunday.
Is the red car going to debut this event? I cant wait to check it out. Too bad I will be working each day and unable to catch the blackjack and poker fun. Milo we can do it thursday afternoon if you like and can just put it in ill have it ready to put on, shouldnt take more than an hour or so, not a problem at all. GT, at the moment still have the vf39, but in May either an externally gated green (#1 choice) or externally Gated 20g(#2 choice) or Internally 20g(#3 choice) or internally gated zilla(#meh. last choice). Switching to Ecutek once im decided on the final setup/tuner. This week going to redo the oil cooler lines with stainless braided -8an line, and some earls hose ends, remove the fenders for the cowl stays, sidemarkers, take one fender to a body shop(Unknown? Ideas?), and get the front mount installed. This past week was the aluminum skid plate, headers, moved from stock fans to spal fans, and apexi intake. Sucky part is car will be kinda garage bound for some time. Jason
Not 100% sure it will or not. We've been rolling it around all weekend and probably all week to see if we find any other 'bugs' with it. It's been doing good, only a few things have popped up but nothing major. If things go good, it'll at least be down there. We shall see. Wish I had more time off this week, I'd stop by a see ya with it. You know Holly is a sales manager for a body shop. She could probably hook you up.
awesome... i think my professor will be out of town so i'll be available anytime thursday... if he's in town, i'll be available after 5
Ahh cool paul I will give you a yell and see if we can do something with this fender, I forgot holly worked at one. Milo, sounds great, anythime thursday should be great.
as expected, got spanked in the awd class... the slowest one that qualified ran mid 12s... regardless, i was happy with my times... had a best time of 13.52 great time on the whole... event was nicely organized paul... good work
Thanks Milo. We definitely had a blast. It was cool seeing Genya out there. Enjoy the ride in your old car dude? Thanks everyone from WRXAtlanta who came and gave us your support. Man, I'm tired...
I posted the results and some vids/pics (stayed tuned, more of those to come) if anyone wants to check it out. Also got a vid of the 93 octane turbo'd rambler running it's 9.32 pass, which was insane.
