So should I just buy the oil filter sandwich adapter or is there another way? I am not too sure why I didn't just buy the adapter in the first place but hey I like doing things the hard way. Thanks, Michael
Don't get the sandwich adapter. I got it but the sensor doesnt fit underneath the motor cuz a return line is running from to the turbo. try this http://www.wrxtra.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=34
Damn...I wish I had known about that kit a week ago. On top of the fitment issue, measureing oil pressure at the filter is not as accurate as measureing pressure at the galley.
the oil galley plug adapter is a subaru factory part (about $8 IIRC), with 1/8" BSPT threads, so check your sending unit and make sure it isnt NPT or you might have to tap it. try finding a local hydraulic line place, they could make you a short line for pretty cheap to mount the sending unit on the firewall. the best place to tap is on the rear passenger side of the block, it is right on tap with an allen head. the stock dummy light sender is mounted under the alternator and works as well
Im about to do this myself, and from everything Ive read and imho it is wise to install it in the gallery plug. Personally, Id leave the stock sensor alone. Some think its easier to remove the alt and remove the sensor, while that may be the case I have no way to test the tension of the belt to ensure its back to spec. I do, however, know how to torque down the gallery plug
The galley plug that I bought from Subaru DID NOT work with my prosport oil sender...which is 1/8 NPT. The Subaru dealer that I bought the plug from did not know that it was not NPT, kind of annoying. I had to buy a galley plug adaptor from prosport. If your sender is NPT, you can get the correct galley plug from prosport.
Moved to our new ECU Tuning & Performance Electronics section oil galley plug (part #11024AA210) washer for the oil galley plug (part #037018200) Threading is 1/8BSPT on most US/English gauges (note, not 1/8") and 1/8NPT for the Metric gauges.
I used the factory galley plug that the dummy light sender goes in (front of block) with my DEFI pressure sender...AND another one for the DEFI oil temp sender. The TEMP reading is from the FRONT of the block under the alt, in that galley. The PRESSURE reading is coming off the back of the block, right beside the PCV junction, in that galley.
