So I am curious who here might be interested in getting together one day a week and doing some martial arts training.

We really just need a space to do it. Although my back yard would work out fine but probably not a convenient location. So maybe someones basement or clubhouse.

I will teach for free, because honestly I do not care about opening up another school. Been there, done that lol. I just miss teaching. I can still give out ranks although you will have to pay for the certs which run like $8 up to brown then $25 for the brown belts and if you make it to black it's $100 because it's a nice silk screened diploma from my instructor. But black will take you about 5 years to get. It's not easy at all. You don't have to get certs. It's just if you want to be official.

The main style I teach is Kenpo Karate. So that is probably what we would focus on. Kenpo is different from most martial arts, you learn the same kicks and blocks but the main focus is on Self defense. You learn about 422 techniques against grabs, punches, kicks, etc to black.

I am already teaching grappling/submission fighting on wednesday nights but might have room for one or 2 more.

I been teaching for the last 15 years or so, so you will be in good hands.

Let me know if you are interested,
    Dan

I have a 2nd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and to be honest, It was the biggest waist of my time lol. Luckily I was young and didnt't know any better.
I don't want to come across as bashing the style though. lol
The biggest difference between Kenpo (I have a 3rd degree black belt in that) and TKD is that TKD focuses on forms and flashy kicks and basic punches. But they really do not show you how to use what they teach to defend yourself. Kenpo is all about teaching you how to defend yourself. It's a very aggressive martial art. If you ever saw the movie the perfect weapon that was kenpo. Here is a link to some videos of the style so you can kind of see what it is like. It saved my butt a ton of times when I worked as a correction officer at a prison lol

http://www.ltatum.com/TipOfTheWeek.html <--- videos of kenpo. Lots to choose from.

Basically this is the kind of stuff we will be learning.

jang, don't waste your time with TKD unless you want trophies. because that's all they'll teach you how to do, win trophies. they've commercially sodomized it beyond usefulness.

kenpo on the other hand is escrima-goodness ;)

lol if you guys only knew how waterdowned and commercial martial arts has gotten. Most of it is kiddy day cares now. People getting blackbelts in a year or less. Seems like you pay for them now days more than anything else.

Monk do you train and if so in what?

ive been thinking about doing some kickboxing for a while now... more for the cardio aspect since all i do for exercise otherwise is lift weights... looks like my schedule will finally allow me to pursue this

kick boxing is a good work out. i used to train with this kick boxer down in florida. Nothing like getting knocked around lol. and let me tell you .. leg kicks are a bitch till you get used to them lol. I would say grappling is a better work out though.. plus there is just something about making grown men cry uncle lol
The only bad thing about kickboxing is that it gets you going toe to toe with your attacker. Typically the strongest , sometimes the more skilled guy wins. I have seen guys make the mistake of slugging it out with people and look like they got in a wreck even though they won lol

    Martial Arts.

Dan, I am thinking about getting into MA and checking out Kung Fu. There is a 2nd degree black belt instructor in the other car club I am in and she teaches that. It is every Tues and Thurs night. It would be a great way to get in shape. It is a Christian based club and I am very excited to hopefully get back in to shape other than just going walking and hiking like I do know. Gotta stay fit!!!. I'm 44 now, and I want to live another 44 years....LOL...
I wrestled in HS for 2 years and we used to have 3 hour practices, but I think that MA is one of the best ways to stay fit and tone....

Mark thats awesome. I got a couple of kung-fu brothers floating around. Kenpo has alot of chinese roots to it. Even though its a japanese martial art.

Mark time in rank is very important. It should take about 4 1/2 to 5 years to get a black belt in my style of kenpo. And another few years with each rank. What style of kungfu is it?

well, i don't intend on going into full contact kickboxing... and im not talking about going into the tai-bo (spelling) stuff either... just something with mild sparring and mostly punching bags... goal is to get exercise... too many kicks to the head might delay graduation :D

    2nd degree in TaeKwondo
    1st degree in American Kenpo
3rd degree in Tracy (original) Kenpo
The submission wrestling I do, doesn't really have a ranking system.
I have dabled in all kinds of stuff over the years.

I want to do the other kenpo stuff either monday or tuesday nights at my house. around 7:00 or maybe earlier or later depending on where you guys are and what your schedule is like.

Please put in which one you guys are intested in and what night is best for you.
