So i might be ordering a catless 3" Invidia Dp for My 3" catback Invidia Exhaust. But i probably wont pass emession test with this DP. its 4" at the bellmouth to 3". Guy wants 185 included everything. Should i go for it. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1647105
The exhaust itself doesn't have much of any impact on the emmissions test outside of the visual...get it
Where do you live that they do a visual? Ive never had one done on my car and I have been catless for several years.
It was under $250 for sure. I am thinking it was either $220 or $240 shipped to me for the LGT fitment DP. I believe the 02-07 WRX firment DP are cheaper.
Really? Buy some pizza and beer and I am sure you can get some members to help you. It is really pretty simple if you ahve a jack and jack stands.
Usually there are also install days shortly after Christmas. Or...just do it. It really is just nuts and bolts. Not tough at all. But if you can't wait, I am sure TS would be more than happy to help you out.
you really should attempt this yourself or with the help of one of us guys on the board who are experienced. Otherwise you might as well never mod your car. This is one of the more easy installs
well i installed exhaust, springs, injectors etc.. on my rsx, acura gs with the help and tools from my friend. Since i live in an apartment complex, and don't have enough room to work with now, i cant really do much. And i probably wont get my parts till the new years, so im not in a hurry. I would love to setup an installment date with some of you guys, let me know. If we do setup a meet, this is what needs to come off and go on. Off:stock Dp,stock exhaust On:Invidia Dp, Invidia catback. Another question:I was thinking of buying an after market UP, but does UP really make much difference from the stock.
where are you located? We did my downpipe install a few months back and it was really simple. The biggest PITA was getting the stock heat shield off, there were way too many bolts holding that damn thing in. The only other hickup was trying to get all the hoses on and stay on w/ regards to the top mount. I have a two car garage in the Marietta area w/ a jack and stands, and there are quite a few people that live around here that would most likely be willing to lend a hand for food / beer...just give us a heads up.
what year is your WRX? until 06 the uppipes were catted and prone to failure which caused pieces to go into the turbo itself. you might as well replace it as well. it will also help with spool and a little low end torque i believe. however install is a PITA. but just about everyone on here has done one or watched one, so im sure you could find a (somewhat) willing volunteer for the price of a 12 pack. come to think of it, better make it a suitcase
Yeah, I would get an uppipe when you can. An uppipe is an uppipe. The only difference is the quality of the pipe. One pipe will not net you anymore HP than the next. Just get a good quality pipe and you will be fine.
well i guess ill order an quality UP. but will the UP be pain in the ass to install, or is it easy? I never actually went under my suby and looked how the fitments, and how much room there is to work with. Once i get all my parts, ill try and set up an installment day with some of u.
It's a bit of a pain in the ass, but no more than a lot of things on a H4. Sometimes the most difficult piece can be the stinking heat shields!! I really think the engineers of these cars did not account for them being serviced, lol. I mean pulling the air box and the battery to change some spark plugs?!? Almost as bad as the Miatas where you had to pull the passenger side wheel off to change the oil!
really, lol i knew those cars get gayer and gayer by a minute. Well with being said that its PITA to install the UP, ill just stick with my stock. :keke: unless someone offers to do some extra hard work. Anyone, anyone?
Dude don't skimp on the uppipe just because its a pita. Its way worth it. It adds quicker spool and low end torque like Jake said. Most importantly, the stock one is catted. Its a common problem that the cat in the stock pipe breaks as you add more power to the car, sending debri into the turbo. There are plenty of members here that will help with an install, just be nice, and offer some food/beer. Hell, this year we had a huge install day in a parking lot with like 15 cars. Just get an uppipe, spend a couple of hours to get it installed, then be done with it.
DUde, just get it and get some help from other members on here. It really isnt that bad especially if you have someone there that has done it before. Just make sure you get all new OEM gaskets and you should be fine. If you are changing out the DP, you are halfway there anyway.
^^^ +1. Buy and install the uppipe along with everything else. You will regret not installing an uppipe now as opposed to 2 months down the road! BTW...I speak from experience.
Stock is not a good idea....not if it is one of the ones with a cat in it. Those under increased pressure from mods and such can and will eventually break up and grenade the turbo. It is more than worth is to switch to an aftermarket or gutted up. I personally would prefer (and have on my car) an aftermarket one. It was too much of a risk to me to have a gutted one that might have a couple little shards or metal still in there waiting to break loose and get sucked into the turbo.
^^ thx guys, ill take ur advice. Any clue on which Up i should get, good quality. I got one laying around that is after market, but i don't think its a good quality.
I think there was a thread recently that compared diameters. I think it depends on your goals for which turbo you use. Larger means more flow but less velocity. Smaller means more velocity (read quicker spool) but less top end flow. So really just evaluate your realistic goals for your car and decide from there.
18g should net you a little more than 300 I would guess. Just about any reputable up pipe should work fine for those goals. Some people prefer the ones with the flex section as they reduce the chance of leaks or cracks. My turboXS up pipe has one. The turboXS pipe though is very narrow at the flew joint. I believe someone said it was around 1.5x inches. That is one of the disadvantages of the flex joints. Some of them neck down severely.
