Is it normal for the boost to go up and down?

Okay. I just recently got my stock exhaust put back on as well as a stock ECU. But when I apply a certain amount of throttle and boost (above 7psi), the turbo will shoot up and then down, then up and then down. At WOT it'll spike up to 17ish and shoot back down to 10 then up and down again. I also have a cold air intake, and a catless up-pipe still on the car, and probably won't be taking them out. Are those also causing the turbo to spike/surge? Could it be a wastegate? Could it be just the cold air? Any ideas?

When you returned to the stock ECU, did you replace the stock restricter pill?

When you program for more boost, you have to replace the restricter pill in the line. If you returned to stock, but did not put the stock restriction pill back on, I believe that could cause boost surges like what you are seeing, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try to get a stock restricter pill in there. I think I have an STi one? I know i don't have a stock one.

If you don't have it, they are super cheap to get from Subaru.

Yup, you've gotta get back on the pill, lol. I posted a thread on Nasioc about this a while back.

for the moment, take your pill out and it will just be low on boost, that's safer than surging all over the place.
