So here's the situation, I have all of wires run from the doors to the trunk, and my power wires from the battery to the trunk, and some alpine type x seperates in the front doors... I had an amp, sub, avic d1 hooked up but I was getting engine noise through the system and couldn't get rid of it... all of the gear (except for the seperates) were used. I pulled everything (radio, amp, sub) and am going to do it over again with all new gear, but I noticed that even with everything out, I think I'm still hearing engine noise through the front speakers??? My question is... is it possible to be getting engine noise through the speakers if nothing is hooked up?? There are wires leading from the speakers to the trunk, but they are not hooked up to anything... I'm looking for some expert advice, and possible causes, or if it's even possible... THANKS!!
your whole electrical system grounds back to the chassis or the engine block in some way. Speakers can resonate EMI without power, if strong enough interference is nearby. but correct me if I'm wrong, guys; if a speaker connection is in any way touching the chassis, its become part of the same ground as everything else, right?
I would not ground to the chassis on these cars, between all the plastic and sealant and stuff everywhere it does not seem logical. If you are willing, I would run the main ground back up to the battery itself. This would 100% ensure the best ground imo.
