    There's nothing wrong with asking.

As far as I know the only drawback to the Kartboy short shifter is that every once in a while it has a tendency to bump the metal trim or housing type area around the shifter but since that is really only a slightly annoying click and not any kind of damaging event, it's all just a matter of do you really want a shorter throw.

Mine clicked for a while but now it has either stopped completely or I've just stopped noticing it altogether.

only in 1st gear that the trim interferes
you can bend it slightly up or dremel a corner off
all short shifter that exceeds reduction of 20% will do that

Yeah, I'd recommend notching the corner like Ming says; if it interfers a little then I can imagine that it could cause 1st gear to pop/not fully engage at times.

Yeah. ^^^^ Definitely, if it has interference. And note that Some are worse than others while some don't even have any contact at all.

only 500 miles, would this void your warranty?

If you don't care about that, get the super-shifter set from turninconcpets.com that comes with the front stay bushings, rear bushing, shifter linkage buhsing and a Kartboy shifter with the pivot bushing
