I am currently on the market for a new car. I have been reading forums trying to gain as much knowledge as possible on the WRX. In the past i had a 20th anniversary GTI. I had very little mods, but loved driving the car, it was a lot of fun. I needed something bigger than could carry more people and junk, so i went with a 05 4runner. Needless to say i am tired of it 1 month later, and i need something else. What i need is a recommendation, should i buy a new WRX wagon, or should i stick with something used maybe a few years older. The only appeal of a new car to me is the warranty. I like the styling of 02 and 03 WRX the best, but could learn to love the newer ones. Is this a car i should care about the warranty, or if i find an 03 with less than 50k miles, will i be making a wise investment in getting it. Any info would help a ton. Thanks, Justin
An un-modded or lightly modded WRX should be very trouble-free and low maintenance. The problem with buying a used one is that you don't know its history; somebody might've modded and beaten the snot out of it and turned it back to stock before selling/trading.
This is all too common with WRXs, every person I know who has bought a used one has found mods or evidence of past mods on it. That being said, the wagons rock and are super spacious. They're great cars and the ultimate daily driver in my opinion.
im planning on getting into a 06 wagon. i have had a sedan before and i found that i was crammed and that i didnt have enough room to haul everything that i needed to. I think that we are in the same boat. Im glad that you posted this up. i was actully thinking about a 4 runner and i decided shortly after reading your post to get a new wagon. The reason im going new instead of used, is that in atlanta, i wont say most, but many wrx owners are members of this community. this site is pro-modding so you will find that many 02 and 03 models have been modded. there are many cars that are sold individually on this site. I feel that by buying from and owner, you will get an honest testament of what has been done to a car and how the car has been treated. Sol Drums bought his 02 wagon used and modded and has had a great experience. There are some people, WeaponWRX, that are selling theirs, if the price is right. Do some research here before you go dealer hunting. If you want a car that you can be 100% sure about, i recomend Subaru of Gwinett. They have a great performance department and a good sales group. If you want to have some extra ass behind the gas, they are the people that can make it happen for you. Good luck, and welcome to WRXATL. im sure that you have come to the right place to learn about the car you want information about. these are some good people. Tom
Stick with an 03 wagon or later. They upgraded the tranny and should have less "normal" issues associated with the 02's. Just make sure you drive it thoroughly before purchasing it. It may also help to have a person who knows how the specific car should perform. Test drive it and just get a little rough, normally they let you know right away whether they were taken care of.
Basically listen to all of the advice that everyone has given so far, and if you end up buying a used WRX through a dealer, such as SoG, and you dont plan on modding it, get the extended warranty. <--has 35k miles left on my extended warranty and has 65k miles on the car
basically, take all of us with you when you go to check out the car and we can tell you if its good or not. Hmmm maybe we should do that everytime someone is going to buy a car from a dealership! Take a little muscle to the ball park ya know? ok ok stopthreadjack SORRY
if you needed an suv getcha a wagon for sure, very versatile cars, and an awsome grocery getter that can reach over 300hp with ease.
STi FTW! We owned a WRX, and there is no comparison to the STi. If you can work it out that you can afford and STi, get one! -- Brian
my girlfriend had a acura gsr and shes selling it to get a wrx after driving my sti...if the cars meant for her then a wrx can be meant for u
Wagons rock! I got mine used with the extended warranty but I'm lightly modded since then. Very fun cars!
