It may be time for some nitrous...

I just rode in a friend of mine's C6 Vette with a 125 shot and all I can say is wow. That was the first time I was in a car with nitrous and now I want some. It pulled so hard it made my car feel like I was driving the xB.

I wasn't thinking of anything like a 125 shot but maybe something on the order of 50. I have zero experience with nitrous so I don't know what is required to even be remotely safe.

Somebody either talk me off the ledge or push me over.

I have ran nitrous in two of my previous race cars. It was a good cheap High, but I think I would stay with Meth if you wanted a power adder. I blew both the motors I was running NOS on.

I've had nitrous on almost every car I have ever owned. I love the stuff. It becomes a lot more complicated on a turbo car and honestly I don't know if I would do it if I wasn't running a AEM.

Nitrous can be quite safe. Andy ran his drag car for 2 years on the same motor making mid 9 second runs on nitrous. It's all in how it is applied. But as Matt mentioned, on a turbo car it does become a bit more challenging. Most folks just use it to spool monster turbos then shut it off when the turbo is spooled, lol.

    Mike are you running meth?

Me or the other mike, lol? The other mike was running meth I think. I run E-85 so no need.

Do it! No subaru guys run nitrous, i think just because most subaru owners are very conservative with their modding. I've always thought a 75 shot would be perfect having the power when you want it and still retaining stock spool for every day use.

Then again I'd think that you would want a nitrous tuned map and have an AP for easy map swapping when you're at the track and want to use it.

Also my buddy EJRex runs nitrous on his Ej205 with a td06h 20g and pump gas only. Made 400 hp /tq. Also Doug extracted a whopping 420ish tq on a VF39 turbod STi with just pump gas.....WOW!

Do it Mike. I've talked to Siegel and Doug about doing a small shot of Nitrous on top of the meth injection and they both said you can tune it and that its safe if you are tuned for it and use it right.

Hmm, I've got an idea its something we have been working on for a buddies vette but I'm sure we could adapt it to yoiur suby. We can use the meth as the fuel for the nitrous kit, we would have to jet it a lot higher but I've got a chart I was using for the vette. Ill have to calculate how much fuel it would need.....

Since when can any car be fast enough?

It can certainly be done. Turbo cars like NOS. We've done it a few times at TS...

It's cool to be able to feel it on the dyno.

    "I need NOS. Two bottles."

So what does a good system cost? I found out my friend spent around 3k for his. That is definitely more than I want to spend but it seems thats what a decent system will cost. I have seen the zex 50 wet shot kits for 600-700 dollars but all they work off if is throttle postion. It seems a system would have to take into to consideration other elements like boost and rpm to be somewhat safer.

I would like to use the nitrous only below a certain boost level and that once the turbo is spooled up have it cut off.

It would be pretty easy to adapt a system from a throttle switch to adding in a pressure switch I would think. Just have the throttle switch be interrupted when the boost goes above a certain predetermined level.

The Zex kits suck. You are better off with the NX kits or the NOS kits. You can use a full throttle switch but it really depends on how you are going to use it are you going to spray it all the way to redline or are you going to spray it just to spool the turbo. If you are going to spray it all the way to redline like a power adder then you need more than just a full throttle switch. NX has a fully programmable controller that will let you taper the flow in or out and will also control what rpm you spray at. You don't want to spray it down low usually because if you bog the car it will load up the cylinders or intake....and BOOM.

Actually talked to Andy today and he said he did not like the Zex kits either. I do not have any experience with them, but it was the only one I found that was meant specifically to spool the turbo.

Me and Brian went to Summit not to long ago to look at Nitrous kits. They have a pretty god selection.

For a really nice kit you need to talk to specialist and put the parts together yourself. It just depends on your power goals.

I would think that with a turbo, a two stage step up would be best. Either way I see a lot of time on a dyno for proper tune and dial it in. And Sparta it was a CO2 kit for the I/C.
