Hey all. I've trolled this forum a number of times, but I just registered today at Milo's urging. For those who don't know me, I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm currently on my second WRX. I bought the first 2002 WRX delivered to Ed Voyles in March of 2001, and the first 2005 STi delivered to Ed Voyles in May of 2004. I bought both cars primarily to autocross, which I've been doing for about 6 years now. I've been involved with Team Solo for 5 of those years, first as the chief of timing and scoring, and most recently as the chairperson. My current role on the team is to help Heyward Wagner's transition to the chairperson role and to focus on site acquisition. BTW, if you know of any potential autocross locations in or around Atlanta, please let me know by email. I compete Nationally in SCCA autocross events with the STi. The car is prepared for BSP class competition, and it is currently one of the top rally cars in the class. Last year my co-driver and I took a number of class wins Nationally (though we choked at the championship and let some pesky Evo take the title), finished 1-2 in the SEDiv, and 1-2 in the Atlanta region Champion of Champions event. In addition to the autocross car, I'm starting in Solo Trials and track day events this year with my 1991 Sentra SE-R. It's not nearly the same caliber ride as the STi, but it meets my track day criteria (don't run it unless you're willing to leave it in a tire barrier). I'm looking forward to the higher speed events, but I'm very happy to be taking the lessons I've learned in autocross with me to the track. A 120 mph sweeper is not the place to experience lift-throttle oversteer for the first time! The reason that I'm posting is to answer any questions that you may have about the Atlanta region autocross program, or about autocross in general. Feel free to post here and I'll do what I can to help. There is also a ton of information on www.soloatlanta.com (which we worked hard to get going while I was chairperson), including a forum. FYI, here is the current schedule for 2006. I will try to update this as any changes are made: Oct 22 Points Event #9 Gwinnett Fairgrounds Nov 18 Points Event #10 Turner Field Green Lot Nov 19 Champion of Champions Turner Field Green Lot Thanks, Joel Fehrman
welcome aboard! glad milo talked you into it. i'm going to be doing my second novice auto-x on the 19th. so look for a ton of questions from me, Randy aka. Superdude. see ya on the track.
welcome joel... im glad you joined WRXatlanta... thank you for willing to answer our member's questions and concerns... and ur right... its about time hope you can make it out to some of our meets... i try to keep links to the upcoming meets in my signature... hope to see you out there
Awesome. I'll see you out there. Heyward is working on something where the Pro class will always run before the 3rd run group (first of the afternoon). Look for me there with "Stompy" and drop by to chat.
Cool. I'll try to make it to some. I hope you don't mind me bringing out one of my other cars. I don't really drive the STi on the street much, as it's not legal and the clutch/flywheel is a PITA... The GT show sounds cool. I wanted to make it, but that is the start of my national calendar with the Tour in Arkansas.
Haha, its about time We were placing bets on when you'd come around. Welcome to WRXatlanta! Ill drop by if I can make it out to the next event :bigthumb:
Welcome to the forum! I appreciate all you have done a great job with Atlanta region autocross program, and it is fun watching stompy out on course. Wow, those are pretty crazy numbers. Is that crank HP on race gas? I was curious to know if you could run anti-lag like the GroupN guys do? -- Brian
no problem at all... we usually have a couple EVOs show up too... its more about subaru enthusiasts... btw, is knowledge still doing all ur work?
That goal is for WHP with C16, either with or without the water injection (it didn't make any more power on C16 at stock boost level, but it may now). I'm not running anti-lag, though it is something I will look at with stand-alone EM sometime down the road (it's cost-prohibitive right now). It's also a decision I'd have to talk over with my new sponsor, Deadbolt Enterprises, as it would require at least one turbo replacement per season.
Bingo. Javid and I are friends. We have a friendly competition going on. He is posed to counter-strike once I post my numbers, but he will be going with meth and a bigger turbo soon.
Yep. They rock. The car has spent most of the off-season up there while I did various projects to it. Kevin and Joey have been a huge help. We're hopefully going to fire up the car tonight after about 2 months of "working" with Magnus on the new long-runner intake manifold. That is a huge project, btw. Talk to me first if you're thinking about doing it. I'm hoping it does what they say it will do so that all the hard work is not in vain.
Hey Joel, welcome to the forum! I've been nagging people all off season to come out and autox this year. Thanks again for all your work on the AR Solo II program!
Thanks, and you're welcome. I have to admit that I'm perfectly happy just working on my car right now and not stressing over all the details of the first weekend. It was a needed change.
Since it hasn't been said enough yet, it's awesome that you joined. I don't auto x my lil' baby (yet) but I do totally support folks who do. I got my SCCA membership but sadly I haven't done anything yet. I hope to see some events posted on here that I can make it to and maybe be some help n' stuff.
I hope you can make it out, even if it's just to watch and ride along. I edited my first post with the current schedule, and I'll update that as any changes are made. I'm hoping to nail down the date at Atlanta Motor Speedway soon, and hopefully I will have another venue secured at an earlier date in place of the current Points #10. Like I said, I'll update the schedule as things change.
You shall not break the mighty stock turbo record!! Also, there is someone who is more of a n00b then I am! -Tom
The current standard and the two previous are good for Solo. Basically 95, 2000, and 2005 are all legal. The 95 will be legal until the 2010 standard comes out, so you've got 5 seasons left in it.
Our new chairperson (Heyward Wagner) just announced an interesting competition for this season in our private Team Solo forum. Milo - do you have a announcement to make here
yes we do... just getting some details sorted with Heyward right now as we speak... will announce it pretty soon
BTW, about that intake manifold I mentioned in my first post... AAARRRRGH! Of all the parts I have been the guinea pig for, this has been far and away the most difficult.
I thought I would give an update on the intake manifold since I went off on it earlier. I've resolved the major issues with it, and the car dyno'd an impressive 418 tq and 349 hp. There is still a small leak in the one of the manifold welds, and the fuel rail fitment will change slightly in the revised manifold that Magnus is making for me. It's a big job, but the car holds power up top much better than it did before. As a reminder the next ARSCCA autocross is on April 23rd. It will be at Turner Field's Green lot, which is a great place to drive. I hope to see some more of you out there. I'll be running in the third run group if anyone wants a ride (and I replaced the missing seat bracket bolt so that you'll stay in place).
I have already gone for a ride with you and it was truely amazing. For anyone who has not Auto X's before and is interested in getting started, definitely catch a ride with Joel. He can show you what our cars are really capable of. Joel, do you know if there are any Rally Cross Events in the area? I would really like to try getting my car off road, but safely.
ok I was looking around the SCCA site but I couldn't find anything about spectators. I've never been to one before, so I'd like to come and watch (also don't have a car worth running), but not sure what I have to pay or get before hand. Me= confused. Can someone point me in the right direction?
If you are just planning on going as a spectator, there is nothing you need to do. Just show up at an event, sign the waiver, and you are done. You can ride with people, walk around freely, and if you really wanted to, I don't think anyone would complain if you volunteered to work cones or help out. It is not necessary though, so if you wanna just come hang out, and see what its all about, you can do that. I will be at the next event. If you want a ride along, I would be more than happy to take you.
The ARSCCA doesn't have a program, but there are events in the Southeast. I believe Chatanooga has an active program. That is probably the closest... I was about to ask if you were under 18. Unfortunately the lawyers make it a bit more complicated, but don't be discouraged. You need to do some legwork in advance or have your mom or dad come with you to sign the waiver. If you want to do it in advance you need to print out the minor waiver form in color and have your parents sign it. If one of them will come out with you then they can just do it onsite and you are good to go. Details on the waiver policies are here: http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/solo-rallysolowaiverguide.pdf You can download the minor waiver here: http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/minorreleaseform2.pdf REMEMBER THAT IT MUST BE IN COLOR
Thanks man! Just a quick question. For the event name/location blank do I put: Points Event #2 Turner Field Green Lot ? You can do that for a one-event waiver. If you are filling it out for the whole season, put "all events" in that line. Just a quick Q, I cant remember if I have to pay anything to spectate?
Just a reminder that our next event is this Sunday. Hope to see you all out there. Sorry I missed this. You don't have to pay to come out and watch. Just show up.
Great! And no worries, I tried to bump the thread and instead it sort of edited my post. Hope someone can give me a ride as well
anyone got pictures? I decided not to go today as I didn't feel like making the long drive there. Should be at regionals next weekend. Instead I headed back to road atlanta to watch autocross there. Had a white one that did well, blue one that was nearly killed
