Its time for sound.

Ok so after tuning in a week or two I'm going to be working on my sound. I would love some input on speakers and head units to fulfill my needs.

    Heres what I want:

    New head unit:
Touch screen that fits flush inside the 2 DIN slot. Needs to be able to play dvd's and have the option for navagation. Needs to play mp3's. Needs to be able to control the sub seperately from the bass control. Needs another input or two for ipod and whatever else i want...

    Door Speakers:
Not too expensive. Good clean LOUD sound :). Decent ammount of low end along with the mid and high...

    New Amp:
Needs to power all my door speakers as well as my 2 12's. I need somewhere around 1000 wats for the subs...

Ideas? :) I got a quote from a local audio shop at 2300 for everything installed which is pretty good but I want to see if i can do it myself for cheaper. I'm good at audio and won't have a problem installing it all myself.

Including the headunit/speakers/amp/subs??? If so, that is good! I was quoted ~3000 for almost the exact same setup.

I wonder if they would do it a piece at a time... I can't afford to cough up 2300 at any given time haha.

Audio Unlimited off of Jimmy Carter is kind of non-bling and they sell Diamond Audio components.

For the money I really like the Diamond Hex's and the 6.5" are shallow enough to fit in the front doors with spacers. I'm not sure how you want to handle rear-fill speakers but you can go with cheaper stuff there.

The owner's there most of the time and he's pretty no nonsense, and easy to deal with.

I might check them out, but not sure. If I don't take it to the place i got that quote, I'll probly just do all the work myself. I'm trying to decide on what components I want to use and where to buy them to get the best price...

Rockford all the way. I have always liked the rockford amps and subs, but now they have come out with some really crazy component speakers. Their head units are decent, but for the money there are other head units (JVC has some SWEET ones) that are better. For wiring, such as power wire and caps, go to the Pendergrass flea market up 85. They have shops there that sell some dirt cheap wiring that is every bit as good as all the expensive stuff. You can usually find some good deals on speakers and amps too, but you never know what brands might be there. They sell a lot of new "last years model" type of stuff.

^^^ I dont know if I'd skimp on the wiring, its a very integral part of the system. Especially in automotive environments bad wires can pick up electric signals from various systems on the car and cause extraneous background noise.

I think either Kenwood or Pioneer had a very clean looking touch screen double DIN reciever. The only downside (like almost every other double DIN HU) is that it only has 2V outputs.

Do you listen to your rear speakers much? You could wire up the fronts and see how the stock rears match just off of head unit power but I'd definately amp some components in the front. www.iaperformance.com has good spacers and a list of what components work well in our cars.

If you plan to have someone else do the work, then check out Cartunes on Roswell Rd, or Audio Designs of Atlanta in Stockbridge. I am more of a DIY guy, but those are the only two shops I would let touch my car.

I have the Alpine W200 and it fits flush, looks OEM and will do everything you want it to do.

Yeh, i've already actually got my car wired up for subs and got the monster cable kit so i'm good there.

I may just go with a single DIN head unit for a while to get some good sound then get the bling later :).

Here are some I'm considering: Any input on these?

Clarions are very good sounding head units. The upper models have a lot of bells and whistles for sound tuning.

Front speakers are 6.5" but cant be too deep and you WILL need spacers since the bolt patterns are different (stock speakers are held in by 3 bolts in a triangular pattern).

Im pleased with my kappa perfects up front, however, if I had to do it again, focal makes some beauts that fit up front. Oh, and I replied to your PM about the HU.

Hum, never heard of Focals. I'm assuming they're better than the infinitys after seeing their prices...

Hey GTScoob, any suggestions on a specific Clarion? I'd like to spend under $200, but want something pretty good... It's gotta have low, mid, hi adjustment... Ideas?
