Is there a secret to getting the OEM shifter out of the car? It's being a real bitch, and I was wondering if anyone on here has any suggestions for a weakling such as myself. Thanks!
You unbolt the level then just pull back and it will pop itself out. Then to install the Kartboy SS, set the lever in place put a towel over the top of the lever and hit it with a rubber hammer.
Mine was quite easy to remove, just pull it all the way back and it should pop out. Getting it back in was a bitch though...
Like casey said just unbolt it and pull back on it and it will pop out. I found installing it was more of a pita. What I did was put the shift knob on it before installing it. Line it up and hit it with the palm of your hand and it should pop right in. If you do use a mallet make sure it is a rubber one and you use a towel with it. You don't want to "smush" the threads. Don't ask me how I know. :hsugh:
Thanks for all the help guys. I ended up reinstalling the shift knob on the OEM shifter to get a little better grip. One of the plastic hooks from the socket popped out with the stock shifter, as it was quite a violent event when it did come out. It doesn't seem to affect how the kartboy is seated though. Is this a big deal?
