Just curious if anyone has these shocks. I have heard good things about them for other cars, but wanted to see if anyone had them on a WRX. They seem like a very reasonably priced adjustable shock. I can't seem to find anything saying how many adjustment points they have for our cars though. It seems for some cars they have an 8 way dial on the side of the shock and others they have a 4 way that is on the top of the shock.

I have them. They are a 4 way adjustable. The softest is harder than stock, but not harsh by any means. The hardest setting is great for autox. They pretty much corner flat. Definitely a good price for these shocks. They are very reliable and have solid valving, so they shouldn't break. I have taken several first places at SCR in my class and CSCC with the setup. I am thinking about selling mine along with my Eibach Pro springs if you are interested (pm me).

I had the setup corner weighted at the DoubleX in Atlanta during the summer, which gave me less than 1% cross weight difference. 1% is close to what they shoot for in professional racing.

Good to hear! I actually have the Eibach Pro springs on there now, just looking for a decent shock to match. I believe the shocks are still stock and are coming close to giving in.

You should also definetely check out the Koni Inserts. I have them and love them. Should match up pretty well with the Eibachs.

The Koni's are great, but not worth double the price of the KYB's. This summer a buddy of mine at CSCC was running the Koni's on his Evo for only a month and had a strut blow out on him at SCR Columbia race. The KYB is great for entry level to intermediate soloII. If you decide you want to go do Pro solo's then the Koni's or Tokico's would be a better option due to the larger range of adjustments.

If you PM Gotsol, you will not pay double the amount of the Kybs. As for the strut blowing out, I imagine you can find an example of pretty much every brand of strut blowing out during a competition. I remember the JIC coilovers were getting creamed on NASIOC after one particularly nasty "malfunction"...

how can you tell when your struts are about to go? how many miles do the stock ones tend to last?

There will seem to be a lot of oscilation. If you were to compress the car over the damaged strut, it should feel wobbly and compress easily. When the strut is off of the car you can compress it easily with your hands. It can also make a clunking noise during driving.

If you can get the Koni's for less than $600, than I would say its worth it, because that is double the KYB's. As far as malfunctioning goes, I do realize it was a single incedent, but a strut should not fail if you are autox'ing especially a one month old strut.

I have run adjustables before on my old 89 331 lx vert mustang. I want to say I had Tokico's on there...I drove that thing HARD and never blew them. But, this car also had other supporting suspension mods...subframes, springs, strut bars, sways, bushings, etc. But they were also pretty expensive at the time...when I get ready to but I would like to find a set for this car for under $500. I already have the springs, so that helps some. Just trying to plan out a decent suspension for street and the occasional auto-x or track day. I like adjustables as you can make them feel nice for daily drivin and then crank them down for the track.

when you have a bad strut, does it clunk? or squeek really bad? mine squeek like crazy going over speed bumps and all that jazz... or do i need to re-lube my sway bar mounts...? i was just wondering...

Squeeking is from the swaybars. Grease them. Normally there isn't any friction on the struts to squeek unless the shaft is binding, which would be crazy. You would hear a clunk and your suspension would travel a lot all the time specifically on one wheel normally.

Does anyone have any experience with KYB's and TEIN S Techs..Think that would be a good match?

No experience with that, but it should be a great match up. The Teins have slightly more spring rate than the Pinks, and the KYB's are a great combination for the Pinks. Someone said that the KYB's are just an adjustable version of the STi struts, but I don't know how true that is. I would just compare the drop of the two.

The STI adjustables are made by KYB so I believe they might be very similar. The only thing different might be the valving.
