I know there are a ton of avid cyclists/mountain bikers here, just curious what your views are on this guy.

Personally: I say he's gotten what he deserves and if he gets sued by the people he defamed, even better. I am a family member of multiple cancer survivors and don't for one minute believe the bullshit: 'but he did so much good for so many people with LIVESTRONG'. That money would have easily gone to another cancer organization one way or another. So that argument is invalid. Plus there are reports that the drugs he used can CAUSE cancer.....

I know good people that worked for the foundation- he has done right by that aspect of his life regardless the rest. It's a shame that it won't matter as we are a fickle bunch when it comes to compartmentalizing others deeds. My dad always said "one aw shit nixes all atta boys".... And he has more than a few under his belt

My question is, when are they going to retest Miguel Indurain's blood and strip him of his 5 tour wins?

Everyone in the pro peloton during that time period was doping. I am still convinced that there are a lot of people still doing it today. It has even trickled down to the local racing scene.

Last I checked, EPO does not cause cancer...it is actually given to cancer patients to increase red blood cells.

He still busted his ass to be the best and beat other dopers in the process.

He passed the tests given to him. If you pass a breathalizer and on the sight DUI test, do you still go to jail? Fuck that.

agreed. his foundation is amazing. Would the money have gone elsewhere? possibly. But the surge in marketing and his performance help drive up donations that may not have otherwise gone towards cancer research.

I also don't really consider what he did cheating, as he was within all the guidelines given. He didn't take performance enhancing drugs, he put his own blood back in his body. He was on the same exact level as everybody else in the competition, and he was better than they were seven straight times. He's the best cyclist to ever compete in that one particular event, period. It still takes natural talent and EXTREME determination to do what he did.

However, the defamation lawsuits are what erked me. For that reason, I lost a lot of respect for him. He'll come back from it, it's the cyclical cycle of celebrities. To quote Alfred, the character of a man is not measured in how he gets knocked down, but rather how he gets back up.

That is fucking ignorant. Come try to hit me.

Let me get one thing really straight here. I DO NOT approve of road bikers taking up the entire road running 3 wide. Road bikers need and have to obey the laws of the road. When they don't, that gives all of us a bad name. However, if I am out riding and you do some stupid shit like that to me...you better hope I don't catch you. You'll be the one having to explain to your work that you can't come in for a week because some guy in spandex kicked your face into the curb.

Not only is it ILLEGAL to ride on the sidewalk...I wouldn't be able to anyway. Normal cruising speed can be between 18-20 mph in most cases. I actually have to watch my speed in a lot of areas of Roswell, Alpharetta and Cumming because I will get a speeding ticket if caught speeding.

BTW...I have numerous bikes at my house ranging from road bikes to full out DH rigs. I'll ride the road and gap over roads on the MTB. Not every guy on a road bike is a roadie.

Do you have any idea how many times I have had cars swerve to hit me for no reason when I had both tires on the white line? I know you are just making a joke but it isn't a joking matter for those of us that enjoy the sport.

All the more reason to stay off highways. Is it fair? No way. But people are stupid and ignorant and will do stuff like that. How I see it...rather stick to dedicated bike trails than to get hit Orrin over by some idiot that thinks they are being funny. There just is no protection when cycling.

I try to stay away from high traffic areas as much as I can for that reason. Just lower liability as much as possible. That said...I have had change flicked at me on country roads too. Shit that hurt. Ignorant people will always be ignorant. Online keyboard courage/ignorance will always be a part of forums too...just calling it how it is.

I avoid busy roads like the plague as well but I have had people deliberately try to hit me when I am riding in he median. The worse part about it all is that 99% of the time when there is a fatality accident involving a cyclist, the driver isnt charged. On the flip side, angry cyclist barking at motorists doesnt help either.

Try riding out by where I live with all the freaking FOB's that cant drive. Talk about getting some mad bike handling skilz!

I sure did if you try to run into me with a car...and it isn't a threat.

I have the same problem and I ride. It's share the road...not take it over.

whew, but just in case you change your mind I'll be at ALLpro Friday.
    :D

but I'll try to be serious for a change. Honestly, I can't figure out why anyone would ride a bicycle on the roads anywhere around the metro atl area with all the texting and driving going on. I wont walk with the family on the sidewalk of the main road because of all the mindless drivers.

cyclists are annoying and SNL solved this problem years ago:

    http://vimeo.com/40861906

cyclists on the road remind me of idiots that run around filming cops, open carrying weapons, and other bullshit activist causes in the name of HEY BRO IT'S MY RIGHTS.

More ignorant statements. Has nothing to do with "HEY BRO IT'S MY RIGHTS"...it's not even an activist group. More win on the WRXATL board from someone who takes pride in being negative online... :|

Ironically enough...the Subaru community has more cyclists in it than any other car group due to how versatile the platform is for those that like adventure sports. Subaru actually supports that community in a lot of ways.

I, once long time ago, run into a raid of bikers. Long story short, they fell down like bowling pins. I laughed it off and kept going.

this interview with Oprah he is admitting to using Performance enhancing drugs, AND doping.
SportsCenter interviewed his former teammates wife whom was with him when he was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer in 1996; when the doctor asked him if he was using any performance enhancing drugs, he rattled off 4 to the doctor (i don't remember the exact names, google it or watch Oprah's interview tomorrow). so he had been using them pre-1996 through his last tour win at least which was 2005(??).

So let me get this straight. You can call me annoying and a bullshit activist...then I respond in a way you don't happen to like and now I am the one that needs to take a chill pill?

You can stand by yours...I'll stand by mine.

Lance Armstrong: Classic case of the American public making a sports star their hero only to find out he is exactly like every other sports star. In this case, it just sucks that he leverage Livestrong at the same time.
