So I got a AP2 a couple of days ago, and I'm tempted to load the LC map but reading on other forums no one really recommends it. Whats everyone thoughts on LC as far as the benefits or potential issues? ATTN *Newb question* And whats the purpose/use of Flat foot shifting?
LC is not necessarily bad. If you put it to the floor and sidestep the clutch, of course it's abusive. But if you use it to hold a consistent rpm while your foot can be at a higher throttle point, and launch reasonably with the clutch like you should, it's actually very useable to get consistent starts. FFS I really don't see a point for unless you're into drag and want to bang gears.
so ffs and lc are way bad...i see no immediate need for ap2 now. oh wait, its got a color screen and a usb interface....uhh, still no.
It's horribly bad for the engine, it put way too much load on it. It's extermely useful for ProSOLO and many autoxs in which you have a straight start. However my nationals co-drive from last year blew a piston ringland at the DC Pro this summer after many autoxs of using the AP2 LC. My car was also a victim of the this too.
I love my AP2, with its live readings I can monitor whats going on and change maps on the fly. You know, cruise around on a conservative map, and then when some Asshat in a 350z gets up next to me on the Highway I can switch over to my overkill map and blow his doors off doing like 150 mph in the death wagon or should I say wagon of death. V2>V1 if your a hardcore skreet racer that wants to be able to save gas without having to pull over on the side of the road to change maps.
All the LC is: Fuel cut rev limit set to an RPM defined by AP/ProTuner/StreetTuner tuning. Fuel cut rev limit hold is BAD BAD BAD. Creates a LEAN condition at FULL BOOST that will crack the pistons. Mere and BrianGT know this personally. So does Crash477 on NASIOC.
The COBB LC program allows full boost to be built under LC conditions. Thats BAD. Power braking is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much safer and easier on the engine than LC.
I know a guy that was using LC and his engine got so hot that the car caught on fire. Total loss. Of course the idiot was staying in it because it made cool backfires.
^^as long as the car does not catch on fire, I am willing to sacrifice the engine. SB's are cheap well relatively speaking compared to a tranny. As far as I am concerned 6mt=use LC. Now COBB just come out with a drive by cable version of LC!!!
Oh I've never held LC long enough to build boost. I've launched with it maybe twice, holding for for 2 sec tops. If it's that bad, I'll just disable, I'm not into dragging anyway.
