Don't lay flat on the ground. The strike could flow through your heart and kill you. Get in the shape of a cannon ball and stand on the balls of your feet. Never stand under a tree. If I remember correctly also your car is not the safest place also. I could be wrong.

 

I've always heard that it's best to stand in a puddle in the middle of a field while holding a 6 iron straight up in the air.

actually best way to be clear safe is during a lightening storm, hop in a small tin boat, and ride out to the middle of a lake, and wrap yourself in tin foil.
