My lady and I are tyring to go to a beach for memorial day weekend.

We are trying to spend as little time on the road as possible, which pretty much narrows the choices down to Savannah and the imeadeate area (Tybee, St Simmons, etc...)

We are also trying to spend as little on lodging as possible. Prefereably less than $100 a night...$50-$60 would be ideal. The place would not have to be ON the beach...within 10 miles would be fine, it might have a pool...the main objective is to get much closer to the beach than we are right now, so we are flexible.

I know that Memorial day weekend is not the best time to look for cheap hotels at the beach, I have checked a few of the normal avenues via the internet and I have found a few places, but I figured I'd ask if anyone here knew of anything.

You've pretty much ruled downtown savannah out with your price range. I stay (and would ONLY recommend staying) in the historic district and prices are pretty high. We have a business account with the Inn at Ellis Square ($130 night w/ all fees), but I've been forced to stay else where and it was around $170 / night. You might be able to go back toward I-95 and find a psuedo sleezy place, but that's a risk you'll have to take.

If I couldn't stay downtown, I'd probably stay in Medder, but it's about 60 miles outside of Savannah.

Its metter drew. And if you stay on tybee prices are higher this time of year but you can stay at the ocean plaza on the non-ocean facing side for ~75 a night. I used to work there and lived on tybe for 3+ years. You can also check out tybeevacationrentals.com, they rent out houses and other properties. You'd be surprised the deals you can find and the experience is a lot better than any hotel can offer IMHO. Let me know if you need any help. I am tied in DEEP on tybee

Ocean Plaza only has 3 rooms available that weekend...starting at 169/night. The cheapest vacation rental I found was $620 for the weekend...

I wish I knew someone down there that we could stay with.

Over st. pattys we stayed off the la quinta on abercorn for like 50 a night. Was only a 15-20 min drive to tybee and wasnt too sketch.

  8. I know you want to keep the drive down but certain places around the Pensacola area have a lot of deals going on and around the coastal part of Mississippi you have the casino that always have some kid of deals if you call and book rooms over the phone

Pooler is fairly close to the beach and has decent hotels/rates. It's also home of Roebling Road. :)

Some friends and I are staying at a house in St. Simmons this coming week. I'll let you know how it is.

I don't know if you meant $100 total per night or per person, but I'd recommend checking out this site if you meant the latter.

Yeah, I wasn't the one who set it all up, but from what I hear we're getting a pretty nice deal. One of my friends is in the accounting business and looked up the value of the house we're in. It's worth 1.2 million. The way we figured it out, we're paying around $36 per person per night. Worth it imo :)
